Philips CD204 - any interest?

Recommended Posts

I've been entrusted to find a new home for a CD204.

It powers up. Drawer opens. Drawer closes. Loads CD. Tries but fails to read the TOC. Stops.

This could be a simple or a complex problem?

Laser alignment?

Laser mechanism failure?

A solid and heavy machine. Would be a shame to bin this.

Might there be any interest out there for this piece of history? Is it worth anything?

Suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Did you try cleaning the lens?

Anyway, here are the spec's on hifiengine, they have a link for the service manual also.

Thanks for the suggestion re lens cleaning.

Pity I cannot read German or Dutch! But the sentiment is appreciated.

I did not notice the language flags, it would still have diagrams of assembly and schematics that are helpful for some folks.

Anyway, hope a clean of the lens helps.

My Marantz CD65 from 1985 died last week (no power at all) haven't had a look at it yet.

Just now, Paul R said:

Genius.

Cleaned the lens. It works.

Thanks.

Sweet! :thumb:

Don't think the genius applies in any way though

Glad it is working again for you.

Nice machines.
I have two CD 104s with the same symptoms.  Unfortunately the lens cleaning didn't work!  I'm psyching myself up to open my workshop manual
Hi Graceman

You wouldn't be in Melbourne by any chance?

Optimistically being Paul
