The Alpha Dogs are only 50ohm and won't be a great match with the Darkvoice. Because the amp has no output transformer, it mates best with higher impedance headphones, 150ohm plus.

I've done the experiment with a Darkvoice and Mad Dog Pro, no good.

Darkvoice and Senn 600, very good.

Interesting, thanks for that. Yeah I had a feeling as much as well. What's an amp you'd reccomend for the Alpha Dogs?

The valve amp I used was the Cayin Ha-1a, EL84 valve sound was impressive. Recently sold.

I also used the excellent Vincent KHV-1 hybrid but preferred the all tube Cayin.

Cayin have introduced a Ha2 model and there is also the Line Magnetic Mini hp amp that also runs the sweet sounding EL84.

They both cost $$$ of course but if you're in a position to lash out, well that's what I like for the Dogs.

What about solid states? I'm currently using a Yaqin SD-CD3 tube buffer and while it doesn't sound super warm, when acting as the buffer,  it improves the sound stage and highs are noticeably less harsh too.
