JVC DLA-N5/DLA-N7/DLA-NX9 Owners Discussion Thread

How is everyone’s NX7 going. It’s been a while and mine is going good. Still on my same bulb and only done 400 odd hours. I can remember getting the dreaded pin stripe lines when I first purchased it some years ago. They went away and have never come back. Thinking of doing a JVC auto cal on mine. Not that I see a problem as I am half blind these days. Just wondering how the current state of the NX line is going these days. It’s a good thing to keep tabs on.

My N5/NX5 developed the vertical lines intermittently after about 8 months of ownership. The issue was always fixed with a reboot but became more frequent and I booked it in for repair just before the 3 year warranty expired. Was referred to Pro Hi Tech Services by another repairer and they were great to deal with. DD board replaced under warranty - took a couple of weeks for parts to arrive but only had to drop off for a few days for the actual repair. Can't recommend them strongly enough.

I've had mine calibrated by Tony O'Brien - made a huge difference for SDR material, not so much HDR.

Up to nearly 2400 hours now and will probably replace the lamp at 2500 (got a spare lamp at purchase as part of a deal running at the time).

Always good to hear a good outcome. I must say its quiet as the only time i get some noise from my NX7 is when i am switching from 16x9 to 240.1 aspect ratio via the "settings memory" on my remote. Other than that its quiet. I always watch content on low lamp mode so that reduces the noise a little. I tried using high lamp mode for HDR and found that the difference in a darkened room is minimal and to me was not worth the extra strain on the bulb. All up i am happy with it so far.

Dune 2 is on the cards for me. The wife is visiting the grand kids on the Gold Coast and will be bringing Dune 2 back with her. I just finished cleaning my NX7 and checked it all over for dust build up. Dust and heat are potential probs so I like to keep it clean. Good to know yours is still going strong. I was not sure if you upgraded or not. How do you rate pro cal to JVC auto cal?

thats very nice of your wife Alan, i watched dune 2 by myself .. not something rest of family wants to know about ! :D

good on you for looking after the NX7 🙂 and good yours is going strong too !

no not upgraded.. do get tempted at times as i tend to upgrade projectors usually every 3-5 years ...to keep up with the tech .. but the cost of the tech has spiralled up to point ... rather put the cash to other prioroties and helps the NX7 is still as amazing as it is 🙂   so can keep enjoying ... and i think most folks are hanging onto their N5-7-9s these days as just too much step up in cost to go up...

not tried autocal on this machine sorry.. i did some basics myself and then went straight for the pro calibration and its been worth it ...
