"and than the earth stood still"

?  no nothing fancy with Keanu Reeves but finally Lyngdorf came up with something all AV fans have been waiting for since release of MP-50

https://www.widescreenreview.com/news_detail.php?id=21541&fbclid=IwAR2KzyxhNXJMBXo3U7-e6IdqqkwOoslx9q0ZgK9JNzHRUsbgG2rPtwO46mE

this will be absolute beast and not only because of crazy 3.2KW output power but because of below message from Petr Lyngdorf , I mentioned something on this note in my DD thread but I didn't expect it to become true so fast, originally mentioned here

"Today we show the prototype Lyngdorf 8 x 400 Watt class D amplifier based a new patented class D amplification technology which is the brainwork of my co-founders of Purifi Audio, Bruno Putzeys and Lars Risbo. This is the first of any class of audio amplifier which is completely indifferent to frequency, level and impedance variations. The actual performance is difficult to measure due to limitations to even the best test equipment (AP555). But we are specifying max 0,00015% THD+Noise, at ANY frequency 20-20KHz at 100 W/4 ohms. Intermodulation distortion WAY below any other technology. Notice the output impedance - scaled in micro Ohm!"

hopefully this won't stay only multichannel tech and we'll see something in their stereo range as well ?

It's a wonderful brand - the TDAI-3400 is something special.

yep, the best thing in my audio journey was when I switched to TDAI-2170, no more thinking of which DAC, amp or DSP to buy, upgrade or have a look...

all their products are unique, especially for those with problematic rooms like in my case ?

Drool . Its great to see class D getting so advanced these days ; apropo  for atmos/dts-x etc . Looks like a well layed out pcb with the capacitors well isolated in the  corner :)

One curiosity is why 8 channels when 9 would be more logical for 7.1.4 systems with a separate 2ch . Unless there is a L/C/R 3ch model in the offing ?

I also think 5, 7 or 9 channel amp these days would be logical but if they used the same chip as in case of other amps than 8 channel make sense (to fully utilize all of its available channels) , but I'm just guessing here

I'm not aware of any 3 channel amp, I would assume that SDA-2400 (2 channel power amp) will continue alongside and covering duty for remaining channels if/when one decide to increase number

btw. one more thing, I've seen somewhere that this should be feedback amplifier and I wouldn't be surprised seeing that THD+N figure, don't think this is possible with open loop tech but let's see for final specs...

2 independed PCBAs, bottom input/output power board, top is PSU board, if you zoom in you'll see in details

section next to XLR connectors looks like buffer stage with stereo AD chips (4x) in similar fashion like current range of amps

Yes class D's tend to use a lot of global or local feedback at the expense of high intermodulation distortion with the loudspeakers interface effect ; but this version seems very low :)

Not up with how many channels the ICE module originally had [ if its based on an OEM module like others] or if its a ground up development ?  But that would certainly explain why the 8 channels - if their there may as well use them ;)

not in his case, all his amps till now were open loop so this would be the first feedback amp and unless he completely lost him mind ? this is still Direct Digital amp as every single one before in his portfolio, means analog inputs are digitized (4x AD chips I mentioned before) which goes through PCM>PWM conversion into power stage and filtering, he is using PWM chip with 8 channels in his other amps so most probably that's why 8 channel output but I might be completely wrong and as he said this is yet again unique design with completely different tech including chip but still DD

He doesn't use OEM modules or tech, everything in his amps is unique solution with Equibit chip from TI

if you are interested in tech here is more info about direct digital amps

Those plots for this new Lyngdorf amp are incredible. So Im incredulous. Most great amps do -80dB IHD on a good day.

Is there any more info?

Only info I got is from avforums mentioned in first post, additional info saying something about Q1 2020 and price tag of 8K pounds ?

The price tag excludes most of the market. I wonder if there will be a trickle-down assuming it sounds good?  But will it sound good?  The specs look good but maybe that won't translate into audible pleasure?

I hope there will be stereo version (replacement of SDA-2400) , all their amps sound good and measure worse so I believe this one will sound at least as good as the rest ?

I also hope price tag will be lower than that, I would expect price below 4x SDA-2400

I couldn't imagine Bruno Putzeys making an amplifier that didn't use feedback.... or one which "measured bad but sounded good"

me neither but I don't know how influencing was Lars and Petr in this design so lets see

In tandem with the new MP60 announcement comes the top of the line Steinway P300 with what looks similar features = 16 Discrete ChannelDTS:X Pro HDMI 2.0b Dolby Vision Active Bass Control Roon Endpoint

Now the close timing with the new 8400 8 channel class d power amp makes more sense as a pair :)

As does a new MP60 with either a bunch of 2400's or 8400;s or digital input speakers with its optional digital outs

Quote

Optional DCI-compliant AES67 input/output board as well as an optional DCI-compliant AES3: DB 25 input and/or output board option for integration with digital cinema servers and other third-party products.

Nice to see another digital system similar to Meridian besides  the Steinway variant :winky:
