Snoopy8
Interesting article in The Age https://www.theage.com.au/technology/super-expensive-ud1s-records-take-aim-at-aussie-audiophiles-wallets-20190204-p50vjl.html Quote Audiophiles have a long history of paying premium prices for premium quality recordings, and now, in a true test of an audiophile’s resolve, premium recordings are moving up to whole new level. It’s called UD1S, for ultra-disc one step, and it uses material called super vinyl. And UD1S recordings of your old favourite albums will cost you, wait for this, $260 each. Anyone tried UD1S records? Worth the super duper premium? Or will it go the way of the dodo? Edited February 6, 2019 by Snoopy8 Typo
metal beat
so good that theage has done some homework - NOT!! seriously, the guy writing the infomercial should be sacked. Anyway Snoop. UD1S releases have been around for several years They are supposed to sound very good the hassle of 45rpm and the stupid cost has me not part of the intended market. https://www.mofi.com/category-s/1856.htm Edited February 6, 2019 by metal beat

vinilink
So, where would Sheffield Lab Direct to Disc would fit in? I reckon, UD1S can't beat he sonic quality of Direct to Disc recording. Just my 2 cents. Edited February 7, 2019 by vinilink
stevoz
At that price, I wouldn't care how much better it sounded.....
Demondes
Yeah I have some of these. The original Santana Abraxas and Bill Evans are going for ridiculous prices on Discogs etc. i agree that these probably the best sound you can get for albums released, with 2 negatives that detract from the wonderful sound 1) price too high (especially with Aussie dollar strength) 2) 45rpm means u are getting up from listening position more often. Not really an issue for me. the next releases are Marvin Gaye what’s going on, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and another Bill Evans
Get off My lawn
I'd agree with a couple of the posts above. I have 2 of these - the Bill Evans, and the Simon and Garfunkel, and to me, on my system, they both sound appreciably better than the other versions I have of these albums. The 45 rpm doesn't bother me, but I'd be happy if they were less expensive
