Apologies because this likely has been covered ad nauseam here and I've only looked through a few pages so far and haven't found something yet... but...

For something such as a concert blu-ray (yes one that I own) that has an audio soundtrack in a lossless format - e.g. Dolby TrueHD - I'm trying to figure out how to rip that info a file that I can play from my iPod.

I think the iPod will max out on ALAC at 24bit/48kHz (I think this is the "best" option in terms of a hi-res file format that the iPod can play). But presumably this would be the relatively easy part, say if I already had a .wav file and then converted it to ALAC.

But... my question is around what sort of file conversion is required here, plus, the possibility of downmixing from (say) a 5.1 source to 2-channel.

I've likely botched this question in how I'm approaching it! I have a Mac laptop which also has Windows installed, so hopefully I'm covered in terms of OS requirements. Also, I have an external (USB) optical drive that can read blu-rays.

Thanks in advance for any assistance -

Cheers

Nik

I've not done this myself, but I think using anydvdhd by redfox could strip the copy protection on the bluray and allow you to copy the music.  Good luck, perhaps someone else will have a better option.

Another option Nik [ haven't tried anyhddvd though popular ] is dvdfab ripper which has an audio only profile option . Options to convert include these popular lossy and lossless options below . Tweaking is done under common settings . :)

Thanks for the help guys - it looks like dvdfab has a "hifi" module that does what I was asking about.

Now if only I could figure out how to do this with open source software...

Cheers

Nik
