audiofeline Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Can someone please name the type of plastic that is used on A4 display folders, the type pictured below. It is flexible, has some rigidity, and nothing sticks to it. In addition: - what type of glue can be used to stick something on it? (I have tried superglue, pva, rubber contact glue, silicone - all without success) - where can I buy large sheets of it? Thanks.
zippi Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Maybe try those 2-pack resin glues. Some have 2 compartments that are squeezed out concurrently with ajoined piston and hence mix on the bonding surface and activate. (Bunnings used to have them). The type of plastic? Poly something (-vinyl, -ethylene). Someone at Bunnings might know. 1

Thanks for the adhesive idea, I will try some Araldite glue tonight. 1
GregWormald Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 I doubt if epoxy will work well. Soft plastics often will only glue with specialty plastics glues. The best bet would be to 'phone a plastic sales/manufacturing place and get the real thing (if it's worth the cost to you).
bob_m_54 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 (edited) try here, and reset filters to the most appropriate: https://www.gluesaustralia.com.au/adhesives/?rf=va&va=39 Possibly something like the Selley's Power Grip, or the Selley's Plastics Glue. Edited February 5, 2019 by bob_m_54
audiofeline Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 Thanks for the suggestions of adhesives, the link is a good resource. Epoxy didn't work. I've taken another direction with the project I was wanting to glue this plastic, so no longer need an adhesive. But I'm still curious to know the name of this plastic so I can order some sheets of it.
batou Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 That plastic is has got similar feel to those used in a sandwich bag. If all glue fail. Try hot glue. 1
