The composite pulp / nomex cone makes for a stiff and light cone that also has a very smooth frequency response - making it perfect for a DIY speaker design. 

These woofers have been used in many DIY and successful commercial designs. They offer low distortion due to the motor design. Good excursion limits allow for music transients.

These woofers are quite efficient (about 90dB/w/m). And they can take a bit of power too - I ran the paper/poly version of these woofers that use the same motor system with a Rotel RA-02 which was no powerhouse but I could get up to reasonable volumes in my living room with no sign of strain from the woofers.

These could also be used to make a set of MTM (midrange / tweeter) speakers which would have less bass but would be very efficient (nominally 95db/w/m)!. You could also use them to make 4 sets of speakers or a set of left / right and centre speaker. This is similar to the woofer used in the Lenahan ML1's (I believe).
