cafe67 Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 (edited) Saw it last night it's good , but it's a modern clint Eastwood movie like gran Torino and perhaps un forgiven, it continues the themes of redemption , forgiveness and living in the shadow of past lives. It's also a road movie. You do have to have empathy for a drug runner tho. Clint eastwood is good (but it's very Walt kowalski again) and it's pretty much his movie, everybody else is very much supporting - Diane weist does a good show as his wife. But It's like watching a 5 star chef cook mash potato , it's the finest mash potato you've ever had, but it's still mash potato. hope that makes sense. Its all well produced, scenery is nice and the soundtrack is sparse with the odd tune. I think green book is a better movie Edited February 3, 2019 by cafe67 1
proftournesol Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 It's a movie about narcissism and addiction. Narcissism is really about vulnerability, Earle (Eastwood's character) really needs to be loved and to be the centre of attention and so has invested his life into his business, but neglected his family. His addiction to being adored and feted is, of course, a metaphor for drug addiction (with a similar impact on families). The movie doesn't really resolve, or even offer much insight into the critical question, why Earle becomes a mule for the drug cartels, but apart from this, I enjoyed it. I didn't really have much sympathy for him as a character, a very self-obsessed emotionally shallow person. Well played by Eastwood, I suppose I just see too many of these people in my work. Worth seeing 1

Can't believe anybody would be that naive?**** but apart from this, I enjoyed it. I didn't really have much sympathy for him as a character, a very self-obsessed emotionally shallow person. proftournesol Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 He needed money, why did he do this rather than sticking to flowers where he already had the recognition and adulation he was addicted to? Yes, the internet flower business had passed him by, but why the sudden shift to crime, and why did he choose "not to see"?
betty boop Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 not reading too many posts here. looking forward to watching this at some stage....
