pulinap Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Mornin' fellow SNA travellers, I am seeking your advice on a 3 in 1 device that has DAC+Streamer+Headphone amp up to a budge of 2K. Cheers
warweary Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Conductor v2+ by Burson audio gets good reviews. Audio GD have a good reputation. I've been using the nad d7050 in a similar role quite happily too. 1

warweary Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Don't reckon they do, though i did recently notice the d7050 no longer supports spotify. 1
kukynas Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 if portable than any modern DAP should do what you want such as Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony, Fiio or iBasso, definitely check XDP-300R, DP-X1A, fiio M9 or dx150 if standalone I would look at Marantz ND8006 or Pioneer N-70AE, typical cheap solution would be Bluesound node 2i, and many expensive products such as Auralic Vega G2, Moon audio etc... 1
Guest Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 How about the Marantz NA6006 (which is a ND8006 without the CD player)? Well under the $2K budget... If budget can be stretched (or wait for sale), the NAD C658 is another option. I have a NAD-T758V3 AVR, which is reasonable for 2 channel, especially with Dirac Live. I would expect the C658 to be much better for stereo. And BluOS is user friendly and good for streaming.
pulinap Posted February 6, 2019 Author Posted February 6, 2019 After considering the comments above and doing some more research, I have shortlisted two: 1. ifi iDSD PRO - one box solution, valves, plethora of options, expensive 2. Holo Cyan+SoTM 200 - two boxes, better streaming capabilities, slightly less expensive. Comments are welcome....:)

The ifi DSD Pro is certainly a good option. If you are considering the SOtM SMS-200, then consider option to go second hand SMS-200 Ultra. Also MicroRendu and UltraRendu version... Plus you then need to consider a better usb cable, which will make it more expensive than the ifi.

You can buy a new Holo Cyan and a S/h Sotm for just under 2k. ifi iDSD pro might be just above 2k for s/h....Just have to have patience ....... Cables+many boxes is the main reason for a one box solution.... Edited February 6, 2019 by pulinap

As I said.....patience is the name of the game.... (if you are on a shoe string...) + no one pays RRPs these days....

Musician Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Realised that, now looking to combine DAC and Headphone Amp and leaving the streamer as a computer.
Snrub Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) I did a bunch of research into combined DAC/HP amps a while ago. The ones I remember standing out as possible good buys were the Nuprime DAC 10h, Oppo HA1, Benchmark DAC3 and the Topping DX7. If you consider second hand DACs there are plenty of people who praise the Chord Hugo, Hugo TT and Hugo 2, if you can find a bargain in your budget. I personally have owned an Audiolab M-DAC and said plenty of nice things about it in the past. Edited March 11, 2019 by Snrub 1
Doctor Faustus Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 (edited) and I have a brand new in sealed box iFi PRO iDSD that was a replacement for mine (it got some noise on the volume knob but only at startup - weird) So thinking of moving on after having enjoyed it for almost a year now and time to try something else - purchased from MiniDisc in August 2018 if anyone is interested let me know Edited August 3, 2019 by Toyboyo
