Hi All, A quick question, I am thinking about buying a Apple TV, at times, I will use it just to play my iTunes music, do I need the TV screen on to do so, especially since I will be using my iPhone as a remote ? Thanks.

Yes and No.   Depends which apple TV and what it's connected to.

ATV3 and older have optical audio output in addition to HDMI,  so could run direct to DAC/AMP for audio.

ATV4 only has HDMI out so if connecting straight to TV you'll need the TV on.   If via AVR then TV can be off.

I don't have an AVR so connect ATV3 -> TV -> Stereo Amp,  so my TV must be on.

I  used to also connect ATV3 optical -> DAC -> AMP  to avoid turning on the telly but don't bother now because I've added an airport express (with analogue output) to the amp if I just want music.

Hi Chill3, So, I don’t need the tv on just to play my ripped cds from iTunes, even do with Apple TV 4th generation ?

Would depend on how you hook it all up and whether your TV (if connected to a TV and not an AVR) will passthrough HDMI or optical signals whilst turned off.

Having said that, the ATV screen saver images are stunning. I often find myself just staring at them when returning to the room, instead of getting back to whatever streaming I may have paused.

I have ours set to randomly display our photo library as the screen saver.       It's about the only time we actually look at the thousands of pics we've taken so is great,  but can be a little embarrassing if it throws up a pic you don't want guests to see.

We stopped it showing our library for the same reason. Not that there is any thing too embarrassing, but our kids also love taking photos on our phones or ipad when they are otherwise locked.

Not with ours either (not digital cameras back in the dodgy days),  but there's a few 'minutes after birth' pics the mrs isn't too fond of.

Hi All, Okay, so this is my Dilemma, I have a Aries Mini, I bought it so that I can transfer my iTunes music to it wirelessly, then plug the Aries into a valve amp using the rca connections, I have never done anything like this before, this is all new to me, I have managed to get through most of the DS Lightening setup, but I can't work out how to wirelessly transfer my iTunes music to the Aries, I intend to use my iPhone as the remote for the Aries, I have installed a SSD into the Aries for the occasion, I am wondering if what I am attempting to do is at all possible with the Aries, with the wireless transfer that is, any thoughts, hints or ideas anyone ? this situation is what has got me thinking about the Apple TV.
