Where in the European Summer with kids??

After reading @markm1111 post earlier today, i'm going to rip off his idea and ask the kind folk at SNA for your experiences and opinions!

Im heading to Barcelona towards the end of August this year for a wedding. I will be going with the family in toe, including my 5 and 3 year old. So far i have approximately 10 days locked in which includes a few days in Ibiza for the bucks party (yikes..) and then the rest in Barcelona for the wedding formalities.

I am going to add an extra 1.5-2 weeks of travel with the fam on the front end, before heading to the wedding. It looks like we'll be flying in to Geneva (im flying on staff travel) so from there we can take another flight to wherever we'll start our trip.

So far i'm throwing up Croatia and Italy for the 1.5 or so weeks. We did Amalfi Coast approx 18mth ago so not there.

A few loose ideas so far are Cinque Terre/Santa Margerita Italy, or Dubrovnik/Split Croatia.

The main restriction for me will be the reality of having two small children. Apart from that Europe is our oyster, but keeping in mind its summer so places on the water make the most sense.

Fire away, i appreciate any help you care to offer :)

Thanks Batty, appreciate the comment. Yes i've been to Prague and it is indeed beautiful. I was lucky enough to be there during a Xmas period and it is so beautiful with all the decorations out and people in the streets drinking gluvine in the arvo.

Thinking more a water/beach side euro spot..

Guest Peter the Greek

I hear Greece is nice that time of year :)

Stay away from the main islands, it'll be full of drunk brits, you'll have had enough of that in Ibiza

My family Island of Kythira is full of Aussies (greeks) that time of year....good and bad. Its pretty quiet relatively speaking so may not be what you're after. Great place for R&R however - food and swimming.

Thanks Peter, appreciate the advice.

We definitely considered Greece, it would be amazing, but have almost ruled it out due to it being a little too far south from our entry point (either Geneva or barcelona).

In the last 24 hours we've refined our countries to the following:

- Italy

- Croatia

- Spain

- Portugal

Faro will be full of English louts during the summer, as will Malaga, Marbella, Benidorm and Alicante.

I know this as it is the haunts of my younger nephews, they go to Portugal or Spain every summer to basically get drunk and party.

Great feedback mate. At this stage Italy is #1 on the list with Croatia #2.

I have family in Trieste that i can drop in and say hello to, and Croatia is close by. Or i can skip Trieste/Croatia and instead focus on another area in Italy. Sicily/Sardegna/Corsica/Cinque Terre&Santa Margarita are on the lsit so far...

One of my closest friend's uncle own a hotel in Croatia which he says is family friendly. It's situated on the shore at Biograd Na Moru. To the north about 30 kms is the old historic town of Zadar. He also owns about 12 shops there (filthy rich he is). To the south, also about 30kms is the Krka National Park.

Some images for you.

That's the hotel near the marina. To the right in the wooded area is a large caravan park. Apparently he also owns the marina and caravan park.

Further down is the old town of Zadar followed by some pics of Krka National Park. If you're interested some info about the hotel can be found at www.ilirijabiograd.com.

Cheers.
