Higher entry level to Mid level TT

Recommended Posts

Hi, just wanted to seek some advise about TT.  I bought my first TT last month which is Project Debut Carbon Recordmaster HiRes with 2M red cart.  I am loving the sound of it and starting to collect my records and I'm planning to have another TT for my other integrated amp.

Unfortunately due to my schedule ( most of the time on-call) and location, I don't normally have the luxury of time to audition hence most of my purchased are just based on reviews.

I am thinking between Rega P6, Technics SL1200G (Which unfortunately I cannot find any dealers here so far), VPI Prime Scout and Acoustic Signature Primus.

Anyone had a change to listen to some of these and compare them?  Thanks in advance.

See @Krispy Audio about a VPI.

I love my Scout.

I sold my upgraded Linn LP12 to buy the Scout and I don’t miss the Linn.

I love Rega arms but their tables like like cheap lazy Susans to me.

There was some talk about the new Technics decks being available through a DJ store in NZ, I think? Someone more knowledgeable than me might have more info.

FWIW, in that price range I hear good things about Clearaudio - I'd consider getting opinions on those also.

All I can offer is that I have an old SL1210 MK2, and I prefer it to the Regas I've heard, but it's not entirely due to the sound. Old or new, Technics direct drive tables are unfussy about placement,  and are basically idiot-proof. If you're the kind of person who stresses about breaking expensive things, the Technics will put your mind at ease.

Hi Asedillo, I have Clearaudio Concept TT, started with MM cartridge then over a year ago moved to MC, into my Musical Fidelity M6si and then to Paradigm Studio 100s. Sensational sound. The Clearaudio has been trouble free and comes pre-set up so very easy to deal with. I noticed genuine improvements in sound as I increased the quality of my phono-stage (built into M6si) and amp and later again the MC cartridge. So it definitely allows an upgrade path
