Tweaky
I was just visiting the BBC news website and saw this short video about Brian May from Queen, and his long time love and use of 3D photography. He has started the London 3D Photographic company [was originally a Victorian company that folded in 1930] and has produced two 3D book, on of Queen in 3D, and another of the first Moon landing. http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20181213-rock-star-brian-may-revives-victorian-virtual-reality
awty
Stereograms are very cool, nice vid. Been working on getting vandyke brown emulsion on transparent paper to get a layer on gold leaf or similar and using a resin to possibly build up layers. Haven't got too far....... Tweaky
Sounds like a very fragile procedure, I know how hard it is to work with Gold and silver leaf, and it can be a expensive learning curve. I'm not sure what you intend doing, but when last looking at getting Gold leaf for a project, I came across Champion Sprayon 24kt Gold spray enamel. https://www.eckersleys.com.au/champion-metallic-spray-paints Sure was a LOT easier to work with and apply than Gold Leaf, it might be worth a try before investing in Gold Leaf, as it will dry completely flat with no overlay marks that you will inevitably get where the Gold leaves join together. Thanks the paint may be a good idea, you have given me a few ideas. Tried playing with fake leaf and yes its a pain to use, might need to hand in my gilders ticket. This is my first experiment using vandyke brown emulsion on parchment paper with some fake copper leaf and some polyurethane paint to get some transparency. Its a 8x10 pinhole camera shot with red filter. Nice contrasty neg to experiment with. I would like to work some layers into the mix. Tweaky
I think I'd avoid Silver leaf entirely by the way, I think you would end up with anything you put over the top of it tarnishing really quickly and end up looking Black. Now I think I get the drift on what you want. To have the shiny metallic Gold backing come through in the highlight areas of the photo, which would give a perception of far greater contrast and depth, it should possibly make the darkest areas seem almost velvet like Hard to say what sort of contrast grade you should aim for with this, probably the same as you would for a Salted or Platinum print ie: aim exposure and development for the midtones and let the highlights and darkest tones fall where they will. On a slightly different topic. I visit the Apple Trailers site to see what movies are up coming, and saw that there has been a movie made about Robert Mapplethorpe, starring the previous Dr Who - Matt Smith. Say what you will about Mapplethorpe's choice of subject matter, but he was a brilliant technician of many different photographic styles, from Polaroid to Platinum prints on linen, it's something that you can only really appreciate when seeing them in a gallery, truly jaw droppingly good prints.
