presmara
Item: Tortuga LDR3.V2 Balanced Preamp Location: Melbourne Price: $1400 ONO (Paid $2,800) Item Condition: As New Reason for selling: Spent $20k on New Preamp Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: This is the famous Tortuga LRD preamp many audiophiles are buying as it out performs most preamps under $10k. The great thing with the Tortuga is unlike most passive preamps the impedance output can be very easily adjusted online to match the poweramp impedance which has a massive impact on sound quality. The Absolute Sound review: For many audiophiles the “best” preamplifier is the one that does the least damage to the signal. If you are one of these audiophiles, the Tortuga Audio LDR3.V2 could be your best and your last preamplifier. Sure, it may not be flashy-looking, and it’s not going to add to your system’s warmth or euphony, but if you want the ultimate in transparency you would be hard-pressed—regardless of budget—to find a preamplifier, passive or active, that delivers your music with less editorializing than the Tortuga Audio LDR3.V2. http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/tortuga-ldr3v2k-passive-preamplifier/ Pictures:
gemini07
Very interesting - it took a $20k preamp to better this? GLWTS By the way, what was the replacement?
Festooned
It's nice that they list the technical aspects of the impedances involved in the article. Not all passive preamp/attenutator manufacturers are that helpful and it's important for component synergy. Very clever evolution of the LDR passive attenuator design here I think. GLWTS. presmara
Gemini 107 sorry for the slow reply - I'll blame Christmas celebrating as my excuse. I bought a Mola Mola Makua preamp. I bought this as I wanted the Mola Mola DAC which was only available as an (expensive) board add on to the preamp. This was the only preamp I heard that had the same level of transparency as at the Tortuga.
