Suitable cable for Sansui Au 505 with old cable connectors

Recommended Posts

I just swapped in my Sansui 505 and realized that all my speaker cable won’t fit the old style cable connectors.  Little plastic push downs that reveal a very small hole for the connection.

I believe to change over to newer posts would be around $200 - $250 (Pete & Skippy correct?).

Therefore suggestion for decent 2-2.5m of cable at less than the change over appreciated.

I have some 'special' binding posts especially for the models with these kinds of connectors.

Typically it's about $80 per set of four including installation.

I don’t think I’d be saying no that offer, that’s a sweet deal.

Individual metal binding posts at Jaycar are about $5 ea, the plastic ones are less than $3 each (lots of different styles).  These can be mounted on a piece of perspex cut to the size of the plastic push-down assembly.  Easy job to solder.  I would replace the two sets of speaker binding posts when you do the job so those old connectors become a distant memory.

I remember making this change to an amp with similar speaker connectors that I owned many years ago, I was tired of mucking about with those horrid connectors.  It made life so much easier every time I moved house.

Ta I dropped into Jaycar last night, and picked some up - there straight and not like those cable gal ones, but the way the those "horrid connectors' work its pushing them off queue and there lose and don't look like even the better ones will work.

I'm going to send the unit to Pete_Mac for the proper ones.

Then its done and I do plan on keeping the unit at this stage.

cheers for tips and cheers for the holidays.

Damo.
