not dipole they went out with the dolby prologic

however bipolar work REALLY well for surrounds either side of main listening position. whether a 5.1 or 7.1 setup.

definitely can highly recommend. they have good directivity but yet not firing right in your ears which can be very distracting with speakers not far from your listening position.

I can also attest they work an absolute treat in a full atomos/dts-x/auro3D setup for the full 3D audio experience if planning to do that some time as well.

for your rear speakers in a 7.1 setup definitely use mono pole. and for height speakers if going 3D audio then ofcourse use inclining speakers and such which are suited to this application

I have about 500 sq ft living room. I wanted 7 point surround but seems like 5 point McIntosh amp is looking really appealing at $2000

Hi,

The size of TV makes difference as it determines the distance of the screen and therefore the listing/watching position. In your room you can go with 5.1 or 7.1 or 5.1.2. I think bipolars work nice in 5.1 or 5.1.2 configuration, although speakers quality/capacity are more important.

Worked fine for me and also in taking to 7.1 and then in a 13.1.5 setup they work a test. Note though bipoles on sides I run mono poles in rear as did for 7.1 setup.

bipole has benefit in close quarters as mono pole can be quite annoying close quarters. Bipoles can aLso fill out a larger space. They are also less critical of positioning :)

re screen size wi Tellies most will not be able to setup to full resolve as Likely be too close. People will generally go for a viewing distance comfortable with so a 2.5 -3m viewing distance regardless of screen size :)
