AVR keeps switching to ARC.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I recently bought a Panasonic UB820 and have it hooked up via both HDMI outputs, one to tv and other to Denon 4311.

All works well except that the AVR seems to repeatedly switch to the ARC mode instead of the Blu ray input. It eventually stays on the Blu ray input when the movie starts and I manually switch back to that input.

Any idea why this happens? Slightly annoying.

Your TV and/or the Denon are setup for HDMI-CEC, switch them off and this will stop happening. Also do what Steffan said.

I like the idea of using the tv remote to control the AVR volume. I assume this won't work without CEC?

Usually just mimic the controls and nothing to do with cec. Cec does stupid things like open the drawer on player and suddenly everything switches on and inputs are selected and what not even if they were not needed. The implementation of cec has always been flaky and best all switched off. Others wise leave yourself to all sorts of hand shake and switching issues presenting leaving you wondering what is going on.

I tried a universal remote . . .  . .wasnt for me . . . found it more hassle than anything else . . . . does work for alot of people though

Fair enough. Harmony software has improved quite a bit if that's what you tried previously. The hassle is usually stopping people from using the original remotes so the universal one doesn't lose the current status.

Been using harmony for years. Complex system. My daughter was able to run the system since as toddler. Wife which is an infrequent user it’s only because if the universal she can work way around.

I too have been using the Harmony One after having tried the whole HDMI-CEC thing.

Initial setup can be complex, but once up and running, I don't think much beats it for the $$$

Been using a Harmony for many years (on my third!). Yes, it takes some effort to learn and set up, but once done, it has been invaluable in my setup.  One button to turn on every thing for the HT setup and sets up all the components correctly.  And if it breaks down, can pop over to local Officeworks for a quick and cheap replacement.
