Krumlov
Hi Guys, Just really trying to get up to speed on the latest projectors to possibly replace my aging Panasonic. My room is 4.4x5.5 and I have a Majestic Scope 110" screen on the narrow wall. Seats and projector (roof mounted) are about 3.65m back. Front wall is black. All other walls are neutral colours and the curtains remove most light. My budget is around $3k. My goal is to get the best picture I can for the price and to get something that has lens memory so I don't have to do the manual zoom I am doing now. I am not averse to second hand well cared for gear. So are there options for what I want around that price?
Quark
If you can stretch your budget to $3.8K, there's a new JVC X5900 here after ebay's 5% discount voucher (grabit are the ebay sales for Klapp AV, a Melbourne bricks and mortar retailer). Note the X5900 is in run-out as new 4K models are introduced at much higher price points. Otherwise any used JVC from the X35 model onwards (when their reliability got sorted) will be fine. I see there's a used X500 in the classifieds here for $1250.
Krumlov
Thanks. Reading reviews of the X500 it certainly was good at release. I just wonder if I would be missing out on anything with 5 year old tech. Certainly I like the price! It seems interesting that if the X5900 is on the way out will there be nothing shortly in the sub-4K price range that is decent?

Krumlov
Just thinking about the X500. Can you still get a ceiling mount for it? I made the one I am using currently that I might be able to adapt but I don't want to end up in trouble for want of a mount?!

Stuff all has changed in the last 5 years other than input input compatibility and their are effective work arounds for that.
Krumlov
Still looking! Quark said that anything from X35 up will be fine. I see an X35 on Gumtree for $1200. There is an X500 in the classifieds for $2000. The photos for the X35 from the seller look fantastic so I am inclined to think that value for money lies with that one, it has the lens memory I need AFAIK. I haven’t purchased yet because money has gotten tighter hence I am looking now in the $1-2k range. Thoughts?

Thoughts? if on a budget id grab the x35 and put money to screen, mount cable and other aspects fresh lamp and calibration even if needed....you'll end up in a pretty good spot. the x35 is good enough for dedicated top end rooms... Krumlov
Thanks so much. The top of my screen is about 550mm down from the ceiling. My recollection is that you used to lose quality in the keystone correction hence my current projector is dropped 550mm on a pole. Is this an issue anymore? Is this an issue anymore? you do not ever use keystone... 100% do not ever. keystone is digital distortion of the image. you use lens shift. that does not impact on quality. check the ivc website as has optical image shift covered. I use a 600mm leader on my drop down screen myself to bring screen at the right eye level for best immersion.

Ok so I understand I do need to still drop the mount down on a pole somehow. I should be able to use my existing pole and just make an adapter for this mount.
