Guest Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I’ve just now sent in a service request, my node2i is constantly dropping off my network, everything else works flawlessly, except the node, on both Ethernet and WiFi.

Interesting. Mine is the same on Ethernet and wifi also but everything else in my house works fine. Let me know how you go.

On NBN50 (even peak evening speed tests are around ~44Mbps). And that's not with a Bluesound device. I sometimes get stuttering on Tidal via Roon and even Tidal desktop app (the official Tidal app) on Mac and iOS. Just this past week or two.

I think we should ping them an email. Tell them you're in Australia. Email is: support@tidal.com Hopefully if they see a few emails from Australia, having stuttering/dropouts, they might look into it.
barn door Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 So recently I’ve been having issues streaming Tidal. It constantly drops out. Bluesound have said it’s my internet as Apple Music etc stream fine. They have asked me to take it up with Tidal. I’m assuming that will be a lost cause. Dont know if anyone else has had issues but it’s dissapointing as I bought the Node 2i specifically for Tidal Quick and cheap solution is to buy yourself an Apple Airport Express for circa $50 (second hand). Wifi connect the Apple to your existing network, then connect your Node 2i via Ethernet to the Airport Express. I’ve never had a drop out using this method.
Guest Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 @barn door funny that, that’s how mine is hooked up via Ethernet, from an airport express, loads of issues here.

So is my Aventage amplifier. The issue persists.

Wow, seems to be a bigger issue than first thought. Solved it for me, but I guess some units might have other issues.
barn door Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 My Bluesound is connected via Ethernet. So is my Aventage amplifier. The issue persists.Actually, this reminds me that last week Tidal kept dropping out on me (not via BlueSound) and I would receive “network server” error messages. Has disappeared since updating to latest version of Tidal on iOS (v.2.7.0).

Guest jakeyb77 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 This will come up every 30 seconds. I agree it’s a bandwidth issue with MQA but I can’t get Tidal to even play CD quality. Everything else in my house is streaming fine. My wifi reads 12mbs. And MQA ran fine on this speed until recently.
barn door Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Issue still persists as I use the Bluesound app to run Tidal. That seriously sucks. I’m guessing you’ve tried the old “reboot” for everything (Network, iPad, Node, Wifi, etc) including logging out and back into Tidal.

Even deleted all apps and re loaded. Hopefully they come back with a fix
barn door Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Does your wifi setting on the Node show no Wifi connected? As I’m wondering if your Ethernet is dropping out and reverting to Wifi?

evil c Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I've resorted to a 2TB hard drive plugged in after losing all Album art , possibly corrupt metadata or some such! Got sick of the ongoing issues I was trying to deal with. Only use internet radio occasionally and I wired a direct Ethernet cable to the router and then into a TP- Link 5 port switch . Has been very reliable and can plug in my Fetch etc. To it for a rock solid stream. Mightn't be a fix for you guys using Tidal but worth mentioning.
betty boop Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 dont have a 2i just the older 2 and I just plug a hard drive in. done. if there's one foible with the blue sound node units ? their achiles heel appears to still be its temperamental approach to the ethernet. I only have connected to ethernet cable for updates and controlling it. and its seamless of its hard drive. or over air services such as internet radio stations and such.

I only use the Node as a streamer. I don’t want libraries and files etc. I understand you and Clive using them as you already have the files etc. It works fine on Apple Music and Id have to admit critical listening isn’t so much my thing with streaming. I use 80% of it at work on my phone or in transit. But if I buy an MQA enabled Tidal streamer for $800 I’d want it to be better than a hard drive access point.
Dolphy Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) @jakeyb77 do you have another wifi router to test? It might be a compatibility issue with the router. I had a similar problem with my raspberry pi, I turned wifi off on the raspberry pi, and forced the traffic to my fixed network. I'd also try turning off all other devices on the network and see if that resolves the issue. I had a similar problem, I had too many devices on my wifi network. I patched as much as I could to free up the wifi network and it solved most of my streaming issues. I hope you sort out this issue soon. Edited March 11, 2019 by dolphy

Even tried to disconnect everything but the Node.
Guest Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 It’s Nodes in general, all 5 I’ve owned have be a pain.
Mat-with-one-t Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) It looks like different setups encounter different issues? I have been considering all sorts of setups to allow for high quality digital streaming and playpack from storage (as well as an easy option to finally get around to burning about 800 cd's). I've looked at the likes of sms-200, Raspberry Pi, setting up a NUC, etc. I've looked at Roon subscriptions and Tidal. I reckon simplicity is going to outweigh the pursuit of highest sound quality, given that the whole point in my setting is to encourage the family to listen to more music! Dropouts and complexity will quickly put them off. I have also come to realise that (in my case) digital streaming will be for "music about the house", and if I want highest quality sound, I'll head for my vinyl! That's lead me to the Vault 2i, which I reckon I'll get once the price comes down a bit. I will have it hard wired via ethernet to the home network, and use i-things to access it/stream Spotify. It'll eventually hold our CD collection as FLAC files. I also have a drive with a load of music on it. Even though I have access to a few quality DAC's, it sounds like the 2i's internal DAC should be pretty damn good? I see members here are encountering various issues. Is this the overriding experience, as my research suggests these units continue to represent perhaps the easiest and best convenience/simplicity vs SQ solution to high quality streaming? Thoughts? wolster Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I'm also getting a few dropouts on Tidal on my Bluesound Node 2. Tidal seems to be the culprit as Spotify is streaming without problems.
Guest jakeyb77 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I hope it’s just a Tidal bug. That being said Tidal has only got me due to their SQ. If I can’t effectively stream at that quality it can go. The constant ramming of Rn B artists down my throat is annoying also and I actually like the genre.
