buzzomatic
I have a pair of LSK F6s as my main speakers, and two 12" drivers in a frankenstein sub that isn't very good at all. Left Channel I've actually finished sanding this box, it is ready for finishing. Right Channel Still have to sand this one, I've had them for more than a year at this point. Subwoofer and Main Amp This "sub woofer" comprises of two 12" Jaycar drivers placed in cheap and nasty car sub boxes, stacked on top of each other and wired out of phase. Both are powered by a 300wrms amp sitting in a cardboard box hidden behind the speakers... End result? Quite a good bit of bass if you turn it up, but if you turn it up to the correct level the cheap boxes give away the sub immediately. Sitting atop of this precarious setup is my Cambridge Azure 550A, which drives the main speakers. You can also see my ADSL modem sitting on the amp, it has since fallen off due to excess vibration. Also, plugged into the amp is a set of Audio Technica ATH-AD900s, for use when a little privacy is needed, or I have a craving for loudness at 3am. Everything So, everything in this setup, with the exception of the iMac, headphones and Azure 550A is about to be replaced with a set of speakers from Adelaide Speakers. Once they arrive I can reclaim my dining table and setup my desk again.
Granite_Octopus
I've heard this set up in-person. Yes, it can be muddy, but good god the mids and highs are crisp. Good luck fitting the new speakers in
Guest Muon
Hay Buzz. Got to love a little DIY Love the lighting in that room, and what are the two axes against the wall? I'm no muso but at least I can recognise that one is a Bass but I wouldn't know if the other was a Rhythm or not?
buzzomatic
The bass guitar is an Epiphone Embassy Special IV, the guitar is an ESP LTD STANDARD EC-100QM... what a name. Neither are anything crazy expensive, just nice instruments for a little bit of messing around really.
Guest Muon
Sweet, I never had the patience to lean, but I wish I had of now. Yeah, agreed, a hell of a name, it could span from one end of the neck to the other
Aslan
Buzz, your subbie drivers look like the old top of the line response units from around 2003 - 2005 (bit hard to tell from the pic) IF they are these drivers they are in fact very good in a decent (read solid, thick and braced) box. What you are hearing at volume is shitty rattly resonant boxes rather than poor driver quality.
buzzomatic
Yeah, I know the problem is with the boxes more than anything. Did the Response drivers change after 2005? Because here's what I have: http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=CW2199&keywords=woofer&form=KEYWORD Edit Actually scrap that, mine look different, they have a double magnet for a start. Maybe it's just the Jaycar picture that sucks. My drivers are from 2008 after all. Edited September 17, 2010 by buzzomatic

They USED to have some great subbie drivers in the old days, but chop and change models too much lately. Lack of consistent supply is OK for DIYers, but not viable for anyone who has to provide warranty support.

Richard Cranium
Yeah, congratulations very nice, I don't care what anyone says, best bang for your buck on the market IMHO. I live on the Gold Coast, would love to catch up one day and have a listen, I don't have the ribbons so would love to hear the difference.
buzzomatic
You're welcome to come visit MGM, weekends are good for me, just send a PM and I'll let you know. And I think you're right, these are the best bang for buck currently available - although that may just be the confirmation bias talking
buzzomatic
I've just added a power amp, an Emotive XPA-2 - here is a dodgy iPhone video to celebrate this tremendous occasion: http://vimeo.com/18492744
buzzomatic
I've changed my layout a bit, instead of a normal sitting level desk, I've now setup a bar, complete with stools. Also, note the temporary amplifier rack that the Emotiva is sitting on, anticipating delivery of my new spider rack any day now.
Telecine
Don't know whether you noticed Buzz but someone has put a bar in the middle of your stereo system. That is taking the concept of a home entertainment system to a new level. If you can move the Summoners forward of the bar, it would help with imaging.
