Best Song Lyrics - To You

Recommended Posts

An absolute classic from Iggy and makes you feel angry and disillusioned every time you hear it.
Dog Food
I'm hanging around that same old scene
My girlfriend Betsy she's just fourteen
There's nothing better for me to do
I'm living on dog food
Dog food is so good for you
It makes you strong and clever too
Dog food is a current craze
Eat some every day
I chew up my "Sunday Mirror"
I read about the rich I fear
Dog food is my whole life
Dog food composes my wife
Yum yum yum - Woof woof woof - Arf arf

This is my happy place from the 2001 release from My Dying Bride's title track "The Dreadful Hours". For some reason this track just resonates with me at a subconscious level that I find intoxicating.

Mother will you take me down?
I have become so afraid
Mother please, please take me down
I am sorry, your boy is not brave

Child just hold on. Night will soon be gone
Sleep if you can. But watch your father's hand

We do not want you. No-body loves you
Father of the dark. Tonight will greet you

God in heaven, can you hear me
Help me Oh Lord. They're coming for me
Mother warned me. Father scorned me
Oh my God No. Now I hear him

I claim your life on this night
Within sight of your own God

The silence, the waiting then the pain
Oh child, sleep will be here soon
Your life has only ever been shame
And so young boy, my hand brings doom

Child, won't you awake. Father has gone
Child, please come awake. Please my tiny son

Shane, the lyrics in the following song are the most important to me atm.

Jason Isbell

She said “Andy, you're better than your past”
Winked at me and drained her glass
Cross-legged on a barstool, like nobody sits anymore
She said “Andy you're taking me home”
But I knew she planned to sleep alone
I'd carry her to bed, sweep up the hair from her floor

If I'd F**ked her before she got sick I'd never hear the end of it
She don't have the spirit for that now
We just drink our drinks and laugh out loud
And b*tch about the weekend crowd
And try to ignore the elephant somehow

She said “Andy, you crack me up”
Seagram's in a coffee cup
Sharecropper eyes, and the hair almost all gone
When she was drunk, she made cancer jokes
Made up her own doctors' notes
Surrounded by her family, I saw that she was dying alone

But I'd sing her classic country songs and she'd get high and sing along
She don't have a voice to sing with now
We burn these joints in effigy and cry about what we used to be
And try to ignore the elephant somehow, somehow

I've buried her a thousand times, given up my place in line
But I don't give a damn about that now
There's one thing that's real clear to me: No one dies with dignity
We just try to ignore the elephant somehow
We just try to ignore the elephant somehow
We just try to ignore the elephant somehow

  • 5 years later...

"How does it feel

to be on your own

no direction home

life a complete unknown

like a rolling stone"

Yeah too obvious right🤭

(Maybe it's just Im impressed I remember it,  makes me kinda sad though)
