Hi Everyone,

For anyone interested, I will be doing two lectures over the weekend for the Audio-AV show on Saturday 4pm - Home Cinema & Acoustic Design & Sunday 12noon - Sound Isolation. I know plenty of people wanted to come up for the previous GTG training, so here is your chance. A lot of members have asked me to video my training and put it up on YouTube. We have launched a new Facebook page for Wavetrain Cinemas and will be adding videos shortly. We will continue to add videos over time with the plan to eventually have 20-30 videos covering a range of cinema design topics to help the average person.

Hopefully see you at the show.

If possible, anyone going should try and get along to these lectures, you'll learn heaps, forget much but retain enough to befuddle you! :hyper:

Well worth the effort to get along.

Cheers,

Chris

Just a quick note. Dirac Live Datasat in an untreated room blew me away as did the Dynaudio Evidence with Bryston 1000w monoblocks. I'll report more later

Nearly missed the dynaudio/Bryson room - it was very very good. Also really liked the TAD room with Andrew Jones adding a great personality to a fine sound. And the Wilson Audio, dCS and Dan Agostino room was hifi porn.

No they weren't selling drugs today :).

Very disappointed in the Datasat demo. The guy was like bored and uninterested and after the boring Avatar demo then a Sting concert (that was good) he says " we are taking orders". For someone trying to impress me with a $23000 processor you need to demo something better than Avatar which they didn't even turn it up. Pretty average demo.

The Bryston and Yamaha rooms impressed as did the Tannoy speakers.

Good show with an obvious slant for 2-Channel and streaming/digital source. The Bryston/Dynaudio combination were phenomenal and got to listen to the Audeze LCD-3's which were hands down the best headphone's I've ever experienced. The Yamaha Room was excellent with their 3000 Series CD Player/Integrated Amplifier and NS-1000 Speakers an absolute showstopper for me. Listened to a SACD then Turntable (Dianna Krell). Love the old school Yamaha look of dials/switches.

Datasat RS20i was a huge disappointment for me. The room was far too small. The guy there sounded bored and didn't convey the key features of the RS20i beyond the fact it had "Cinema heritage". No brochure to be had. The Datasat 7-Channel amplifier is an absolute beast (Datasat RA7300). At the end of the day if you had $26,000 to spend on a Processor (Show "special was $23,800AUD which is still a complete joke - buy a ticket the U.S and bring it back) there's no way you could walk away knowing what it was capable of. They needed the room where the Bryston/Dynaudio was! The Diamond Black screen was brilliant.

Loaded up on catalogues and brochures so plenty to read on the Dunny :)

Well worth going.

In all fairness though, you could not demo any decent system at a noisy/busy people fest like that.

Surely, they are just there to show you what they've got, who they are and where you can go to really "check it out".

The "taking orders" comment is definitely NOT classy though. It must be hard for those sales-people :hmm:

I agree with some of those sentiments Ruth although if I were the Datasat Boss I'd be miffed at how the RS20i was presented (Or not as was the case here).

Some rooms were really well laid out - especially the Bryston/Dynaudio room. What they did is present demonstrations every 15 minutes or so and most people were respectful and just listened. Most rooms are just too small to gain any appreciation for the gear on show. If you really want to hear what gear is capable of CEDIA is the only place (The Melbourne one a few years ago was fantastic) to go if you can wrangle your way in.

Strange that Bryston would hook up with dynaudio again [ not that its not a regular at shows ] when they had a perfect opportunity to present there new line of speakers from passive to $$ external digital x overs models  They usually get a good wrap for their fastidious approach to shows o'seas so good to see the effort displayed in any case .
