keyse1 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 An oldie but a goodie thread (2013) Suitable for an oldie record But a brand new way of playing Streaming on Qobuzz Living In A Material World Sounds incredible even after all these decades I can even remember buying it when records seemed to be of a life or death importance sort of thing 1
keyse1 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Sticking with George Concert For Bangladeshi with a serious guest list of players 1
keyse1 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Not sure if I like this more than Living In The Material World Not that it matters But this record was an event in itself First solo Beatle record. Three records in fact Housed in very thick cardboard with a very dark poster of George’s beard or at least it seemed that way 2
mrbuzzardstubble Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 I wondered in the past why there wasn't a dedicated Beatles discussion and here it is. It must must have been buried deep in the archives. Now all we need is for one on the best band from the other side of the pond, Steely Dan. 1 1
keyse1 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 And then there is this Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band And the cover The secret LSD song A Day In The Life possibly the greatest song ever written She’s Leaving Home the awful parents song When I’m 64 who could even imagine such a thing I was 16 and an Elvis fan without a record player but between the 16 17 and 18 years you couldn’t go anywhere where this record wasn’t playing 2

keyse1 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Imagine I never liked this song at the time I think I was in my cynical stage and much preferred Gimmee Some Truth Some once told me a cynic was an optimist with experience Now I think cynic and stupid are 2 sides of the same coin and the difference between them is about the thickness of the coin We could use a bit of imagination right about now 1
mrbuzzardstubble Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 I saw this as a young teenager when it was broadcast live around the world. 1

Analogueage Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I really enjoy the Beatles and continually find pleasure listening to their music evolve over the years. I'm trying to build my Beatles collection now albeit with challenges as the worst condition record I will but is VG+ . Rob 2
keyse1 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Wasn’t my intention to listen to The Beatles this afternoon Not sure why I started But here I am 3 records in and so far none of my usual ones 1
keyse1 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 This is a playlist of this American only release The Beatles released 12 records in theUK But 17 in the US Record company executives without a creative bone in their collective bodies put together an extra 5 by adding and subtracting songs from proper records and singles making Sgt Pepper the first Beatle record identical in both countries Not that there is anything wrong with the records themselves At that time The songs were so good that any collection of them would make a good record I guess in the early 60’s The Beatles were just another top 40 band in the process of becoming “The Beatles” of mythology legend and exaggeration that we know today Still there is something almost obscene about taking a record by them in the UK and then creating an entirely different one and then releasing it under the pretence that the Beatles had made it Anyway this is the track listing Drive My Car from Rubber Soul I’m Only Sleeping from Revolver Nowhere Man from Rubber Soul Doctor Robert from Revolver Yesterday from Help Act Naturally from Help And Your Bird Can Sing from Revolver If I Needed Someone from Rubber Soul We Can Work It Out double sided single What Goes On from Rubber Soul Day Tripper double sided single And the cover is another story in its own right 1
Analogueage Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 I thought that the cover was banned in the USA? Maybe not. Rob

The songs 'All Things Must Pass' and 'My Sweet Lord' were both released on Billy Preston's album Encouraging Words a few months before George Harrison released them on his own album All Things Must Pass. Another song on Encouraging Words, 'Sing One For The Lord' was co-written by George Harrison and Billy Preston. 4

emesbee Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 I gave all the discs of the 50th Anniversary release of George Harrison's All Things Must Pass album a spin last night. Its been a while since I played this, its a great album and this is an excellent release. I'd forgotten about some of the session outtakes and jams on the 3rd disk, which opens with take 14 of 'Isn't It A Pity'. Great to hear George's sense of humour on this one. And this is pretty good. 'Woman Don't You Cry For Me' (take 5). I'm not sure if this is an original composition or not, sounds like it might be a cover of an old blues song. 2

keyse1 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 listening to this driving around over the last week such a great record the out takes are mostly exceptionally good love the song Be Here Now https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be_Here_Now_(George_Harrison_song)&ved=2ahUKEwj96-fgiZyKAxUtT2wGHeKAFQ4QFnoECBEQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1Jo5uTQZ6OjM_CAD5JpdEu Remember now, be here now As it's not like it was before The past was, be here now As it's not what it was before it was [Bridge] Why try to live a life That isn't real No how A mind that wants to wander 'Round a corner Is an unwise mind [Verse 2] Now is, be here now And it's not what it was before Remember now, be here now As it's not like it was before it was good advice for any age group but very pertinent for elderly folks in fact i think i still very much identify with all the songs on Living In The Material World 1
Ian McP Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 No Hamburg No Beatles SBS 7:30pm Wed 25 December 2024 http://mgmm.tv/no-hamburg-no-beatles < “We were born in Liverpool but grew up in Hamburg” John Lennon This feature documentary seeks to find the truth in those words. The long and winding road that the Beatles took to worldwide fame passed through Hamburg, Germany in the early 1960s. Only a couple of years before they became household names, the former “Quarrymen” were cutting their musical teeth on nightclub stages in Hamburg In the 15 years after the end of WW2 Hamburg had become the vice capital of Europe. Its neon lit streets were home to sailors, prostitutes, drug dealers, gangs and low life. The group was still developing. At the time of their first Hamburg adventure, George Harrison, was only 17 years old. They were all still very young men, and their group was virtually unknown. By the time of their last German visit in 1966, the Beatles were a worldwide phenomenon >
