Guest Muon Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Congrats Mark! Enjoy the un-boxing, It's all part of the thrill of an upgrade as far as I'm concerned
darthlaker Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 Thanks df! It will be a thrilling day! In the meantime I just think back to how they sounded at the dealer... Plus reading great articles like these builds the anticipation! http://www.ultraaudio.com/features/20090901.htm http://www.ultraaudio.com/features/20091001.htm
darthlaker Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 Yes, very interesting. Took him quite a few years to nut it all out...... They sound like one driver rather than an array of different-sized drivers.
Guest Muon Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 The wait must be murder! The better the kit, the worse the wait, I find
darthlaker Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 Yea, it's tough....I still have my Vandersteen 5A's - which I love..........but I know I will love the Sevens more!
peacewise Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Ah Darthlaker, I recall fondly my single session with your previous speakers. May I impose another 6 pack of beer upon you when the V7's and you are ready? Cheers, PW.
darthlaker Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 No worries PW, i will let you know!
valvelover Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 wow! Is the DCs gear as good as everyone says it is? Dave
darthlaker Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 DC?????????????????????????????????
darthlaker Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Sorry valvelover.....just worked out you were asking about dCS! I have not heard everything (who has?!) but the best digital I have heard all have a different "flavor" but all sound superb overall...... It gets down to synergy and what knocks your socks off really! dCS is one of the best brands for digital...there are more....Ayre, Emm, Playback Designs, Wadia, Spectral, Esoteric, Meridian etc....
darthlaker Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Well, I announced it at the SA GTG today and thought I would make a "formal" SNA announcement (!) Heard a great turntable on my last trip to Singapore and (wait for it!), I will be purchasing a turntable! Now I wouldn't say I am turning to the darkside as I have heard well recorded high rez (SACD, 96/24 and 192/24) that can sound just as good, if not better in some cases than vinyl...... It came down to the fact that I don't forsee (unfortunately) popular releases in high rez for quite some time. Will be getting a DPS/Ayre player (http://www.ayre.com/dps.htm) with an Ayre P-5xe phono preamp. So lots of fun ahead......my new speakers will also be here soon!

That DPS is one of my favourites in terms of looks. Let us know your listening impressions once it arrives.
darthlaker Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Cheers Telecine, will do... Yes, it's nice looking and when I heard it on my last trip O/S it sounded a treat.....
Grumpy Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Ha ha welcome to the darkside at last mark - The force is strong isn't it? When is the Darkside due?
darthlaker Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) Thanks Darth Grumper! The dark side...hmmm....strong, elusive, fiddle and faddle (hopefully NOT!) Due in a month or so.... We missed you at the GTG today...was a beauty and Mikizee, tal and I had a dip in the pool.....no VAF or SGR underwater speakers though..... Edited February 26, 2012 by darthlaker
Grumpy Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I wasn't happy about missing it (the GTG) Mark, but things happen .
darthlaker Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Yea, they do...there will always be a next time.....
Bluroo Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Darth, Seems you have some great new toys coming, I didn't see the darkside in your future. That was a surprise. But as you suggest its an eachway toe in the water to keep the source of music available. I likewise will be interested in another listening session once things settle down and your early christmas is over . Cheers BR
darthlaker Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Yes, BR, the future is hard to predict with the force.... I suppose one should never say never! Will certainly invite you over for a listen to all "sides" of the force in the future....
Guest Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 "High end system update- now with added vinyl goodness" Nice one Mark, though going through the ritual with a bung knee is even more masochistic than most of us!
darthlaker Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Thanks.... Change the sides? You mean those black things have two sides?
Guest Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Thanks....Change the sides? You mean those black things have two sides? Oh, there's much more than that. Think of it like the ownership of a 2 stroke motorbike- you have to do the anti-seizure dance before starting it to appease the gods of lubrication. Accordingly, one must perform the anti rumble dance, the anti wow-and-flutter dance and the anti skate dance before each stylus placement. Surely you were informed of this by the dealer....
darthlaker Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 More?! I don't even like to check the air in my car tyres...... Better take the straight jacket into the dry cleaners tomorrow......
Stump Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Hey Mark Check one of these out on you next trip to Singapore!!!Laser Turntable means "No Needle, No Wear This model is for you....
