Mjr69 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Thank you Mttel and Yorac - any assistance is much appreciated
agelessgoodguy Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Can someone recommend clean and reasonably priced accommodation near to the venue and also hopefully not to far from the train station? I have never been on the Overland and thought it might be a good opportunity... Can you pls nominate what you consider a reasonable cost per night as the Marriot may be running show specials as they are hosting the event,
Mjr69 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I was hoping to pay around $125 w/o bfast or $140 with bfast... But coming from interstate I don't know my way around and I might save $30 on room rate and end up paying that or more in taxi fares. I looked at the Marriott when the show was announced and the cheapest room was $185 + $35 car park + $35 bfast x 2 - now deciding to take the train I don't have to worry about the car but the cost of the tickets, meals, accommodation, train fare, taxis etc. etc. I am trying to keep the costs down.
Mjr69 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Will look out for some and get back to you mate, take it you're arriving Saturday morning and going home on the Sunday because if you're not fussed and we can't find something reasonable mate you're welcome to kip at our place and we'll get you back to town on the Sunday night mate, we're a fair way out of town but have a think about it if you want..... Thanks for the very generous offer but I'd prefer not to burden anyone. I am however looking forward to meeting some of you guys I have read about for the many hours I came in here... Maybe we should get DTV avatar name badges to wear on the day?

Commissioner's Wife Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I'm thinking of going with my hubby. This will give me a nice excuse to use the spa, and my Grand Hyatt points, while he trolls around MJR: One can't quantify a great dining experience, let me tell you. If you are ever in NYC, you MUST try the Private Dining in the Wine Cellar at WD~50. It's pure HEAVEN... and, so much better than the excruciating four hour tasting menu at The Fat Duck!
Aspect Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I would advise getting a room without Breakfast. There are so many cafe's in the area, you'll get a better breakfast far cheaper than what will be included in the hotel. I work in Southbank, about 7 minutes walk from the Casino, (I'm literally about 10m from Eureka tower) and we use the Langham, Quest apartments and Travelodge for interstate/International travelers. Cheers, Chris

A man - whoops woman after my own heart! The Fat Duck, The French Laundry and El Bulli have been on my wish list/bucket list for a long time now... pity that you weren't impressed with Heston's place. I keep buying lottery tickets you never know and well now I have another one to add. Thanks Prior - breakfast will be wherever we find it. I'll check those apartments out too.... I got the rail brochure in today's mail - it is slowly coming together... Edited August 11, 2011 by Mjr69

shmb Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Not long now, really looking forward to this. Might end up spending most of Saturday there.
SDL Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Wondering whether I should just go in there Friday instead of Saturday and avoid some of the crowds. It is pretty close to where I work and I could just pop across for an hour or 6
SDL Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Damn, no it is not near me. I have kept assuming after earlier discussions it was was back at Albert Park, gotta go the other side of the city....damn damn damn.

betty boop Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Does a flu that starts at lunch time on Friday seem too suspicious? not a problem...I'm sure it could be arranged !
CAVX Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Does a flu that starts at lunch time on Friday seem too suspicious? WOW. I wish we had events like this in QLD. And no a Friday flu is quite normal for an event like this.
