brake Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 (edited) Just would like to share a few experiences so we can all gasp and laugh at JB Hifi even more than we do! Who knows, maybe we can send this to the CEO of JB Hifi so he can see exactly how his stores are run! So the other day I was in JB looking for a few things and there were 3 workers all hanging around slowly stacking shelves, 2 girls and 1 guy. The guy seemed to be the supervisor or something as he was sort of directing them around and they were asking him stuff, I wasn't really paying to much attention at this stage. For some reason I turned around and looked at them and one of the girls stacking the shelves pulled out a True Blood season 2 box set and was trying to find the spot where it went, at that point the "supervisor" said "here" and extended his hand toward her so she gave the box to him where he pretty much threw it at the shelf very roughly..... Then PUNCHED it! That's right, after it was stacked on the shelf he punched it, now I know what you're thinking: He probably just pushed it in with his fist to make sure it was on the shelf properly and he might have lost balance and supported himself making it look like a punch! NO, he actually punched it with quite a bit of force, he then looked at the girls with that "look-at-me-I'm-cool-cuz-I-just-punched-it look" and laughed and they all had a little giggle too. He looked at me laughing still expecting me to laugh and I just gave him a bert stare: http://www.threadbombing.com/data/media/3/bertstare.jpg He saw that I was not, and was not going to laugh and kinda slowly stopped laughing himself, the smile slowly disappeared from his face and he kinda awkwardly turned around and continued on his merry way. And just last night: I was trying to chase up The Transporter 3 steelbook, So i went into a store to ask which stores had which stock, turns out one store in Brisbane had 2 copies. So I went into the store to get 1 and I looked around on the shelves and couldnt find it. I asked the lady who looked on the shelves and also in the little storage underneath and nothing. She said they were probably sold out and I should have put them on hold when I found out the stock levels at the other store the other day. She said "Oh well" and started to walk off. That's when I stopped her and told her that they are are quite old and should still be here as if they havn't sold already I don't think 2 days would have made a difference blah blah blah, so she (quite reluctantly) went out the back to look for it. Whatdayaknow? about 5-10 minutes later she came back out, with the last one. So the moral here is: If you look, you shall find! Beside the usually pricing stuff ups, has anyone else ever received ultra bad service or seen anything that almost made you vomit all over the floor? Edited July 1, 2010 by brake
dave_con Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Hmmm, about all I can add are the usual mis-information claims made by sales staff about equipment - eg about 4 years ago I got the following, "Yes! This SD DVD recorder will upscale to 1080p!" But then, I'm not too sure that's just restricted to JB!
skin Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 There are useless retail staff in most large chain stores. I have had bad experiences with all of them but I have also had very good experiences, even with JB Hi-Fi. I think JB Hi-Fi are far better when you have questions about music rather than movies or electronics though.
Ænima Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 LOL! The old JB shelf punch...They must teach them this in basic or something. As I've seen this particular method of stocking shelves carried out in a number of stores around Melbourne over the years. I'm not saying they all do it, but I can count on both hands the number of times I've witnessed a staff member smack the piss out of a disc when restocking. CD's are just as bad...Nearly every 2nd CD I buy or pick up has a cracked jewel case from them stuffing them in the shelf slots or throwing them on the display ends. Most times I can never tell until I usually take off both layers of the shrink-wrap when I'm home... Now I've worked in retail for 13 years over the course of miserable working life, and I can appreciate the sense of urgency on some days. But this kind of behaviour is inexcusable and doesn't do anything to lift their image I reckon. I get the fact that you get what you pay for, but in the last year or two JB haven't been the cheapest... Happy Shopping!
Outstrungone Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I've had ones where a customer ask for a certain blu-ray and i've been right next to the worker when they ask and straight away i know where it is and i've actually had to point out where it was on the shelf that's happened a couple of times now. I had one where i rang up over the phone asking for a cd she said it was in, so i went there and it wasn't there. But like someone mentioned you can get decent service you just have to find the right person...I tend to stay away from the female stuff...nothing against them its just most of the stuff ups i've witnessed are on there end.
Jeffie1503561482 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Theres a question I really want answered... why do all JB employees act like they are hot ****? Im sure there are some that are fine, but the majority thing wearing a JB tag makes you the coolest kid on the block!
kulfi Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Please DO NOT get me started on the way Big W, K-Mart and Target stack their movie shelves. I have found it very difficult to find anything (Z comes before G and all sorts of movies are clubbed along with all other types of films). There's no one to ask, so it can take a very long time to go through the shelves looking for movies from their catalogues. Price stickers are usually wrong. The only difference between JB and these guys is that JB doesn't ask its staff members to wear uniforms. They can wear whatever they want and the shabbier, the better.
achjimmy Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 He looked at me laughing still expecting me to laugh and I just gave him a bert stare:http://www.threadbombing.com/data/media/3/bertstare.jpg Bert stare i just had to look LMAO I have had some very good experiences at JB and some shockers. BTW some years ago when HD DVD was dying there was a debacle with JB online listing "planet Earth' at some ridiculous prices, I had ordered it with a couple of other things (pre order), well it turned into a sh1tfight as people bought multiples and OS buyers buying stock out. my order was ultimately cancelled and i wrote a nasty letter to the head of JB outlying how i had been treated and about a week later got a guy ringing up all apologetic explaining how they @#$%ed up, he said the reason it took a week was to find me a copy of PE and subsequently had it sent to me (FREE) and that the other tittle i had on order (DVD's) were being discounted as well, excellent service.

Don't forget that they don't/rarely hire anyone over 30, I've applied for a few jobs there & the only time I got an interview is when I lied about my age Ps I'm only 35 Edited July 2, 2010 by Priory

woodvaliens Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Love the Bert stare too! For me, I was in the JB at Whitford WA, and looking to see if they had anything I was interested in that is under $39.99, when a customer near me (looked about 50 years old) asked one of the older store staff (Looked about 18 to 20) about the Blu Ray version of the movie "Shooter". He said that looking at the back of the case it says nothing about HD audio, and does it have it. The JB staffer said of course it does, all Blu Ray discs are HD audio, that is what they are all about. Not sure about of several parts of his comments to the guy buying, but the JB guy walked off having a giggle at the cutsomer and and customer picked up the Shooter movie and with a smile started to walk off to join a line to buy it. I could not help myself and had to tell him that I am pretty sure that Shooter is standard DD (My wife was saying leave it to the staff), one of the things that has come up here before about discs being produced without all the fruit, so that Paramount/ Sony or Universal can double dip, as they do (Look at Predator, and what a great job they did to with the new version, blows my socks off that they could get so much out of a grainy old movie). Well, I went off the point again there, the older guy said that the JB staffer with the pins in his lips and rings through his nose must know all about this stuff, he works with it. The customer then asked one of the guys from the HiFi and TV sales side as I was walking away, and I heard this JB staff member say, sorry sir, that disc does not have HD audio, he qualified it by saying they tried it as a demo disc, but stopped because of the audio. But also said, the picture quality is one of the best Blu Rays you will see around though eh! Pretty sure the customer went back to the shelves then, not the counter, and I had to find my wife who got bored and walked off. There are poor sales staff working everywhere, but there are good ones too, you just have to try to find them. ;-)

Priory Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Are you tatted out and carry more face jewelery than MrT? No, just one lonely earing, so that didn't help either
Anden Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Just another reason to buy o.s. Haven't been into a J.B. for over 2 months an have no need to for a while longer i hope Last christmas i asked at the counter for what ever new release i was chasing, the girl says yeah theres heaps out there , i say no theres none, grufly she walks out and comes back with the DVD an says there see. To which i replied---get your hearing tested, i said Blu-Ray, she sheepishly goes out back returns empty handed an says sorry it's been delayed till Friday. It was all too much work for our Gen Y .
Dork(original) Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I was in a JB the other day and i thought "gee what's that smell" The sales kid's nappie needed changing. Boom boom. But all jokes aside i find them ok for a buch of unwashed ferals. But wait for it..i have known some of the sales guys for 15 years easily I know them by name as they know my name so i find them very good. Paul.
JEvo Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 TBH I find JB only good for when you know exactly what you want (i.e. not relying on their half-assed-attempts-at-research for information) and you want to get a good price. Helps if you've done a bit of research beforehand too.

Ryan1503559697 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I have four JB's very close to me and i visit them all from time to time,i once went to buy a 50" plasma and rang the biggest of the stores to see if they had it in stock and they said no but they can order it so i said cool ill pop in negotiate a price and you can get it in blah blah blah(other stores had no stock) anyway got to the store and the guy sadi no such TV exists as in that model number, hey well all make mistakes but he was so rude anyway i politely asked him to be sure if he could check Samusngs website or his system and he said why as it doesnt exist so i said thanks and started talking to the saleman next to him and he kept butting in so i said id preder to deal with this gentlemen. Ok im rambling on a bit here but in the end the other guy looked up the in a Samsung book he had in his draw(took him 1 minute) then looked on his computer and said yep we can order that no worries will be here in a week but he would have to speak to his supervisor re: better price which was at the time $3049,and yep you guessed it the supervisor was the first guy i spoke to LOL and he came back and said $3040 as it was below his cost to go any lower, yeah right i said it could be had for closer to $2.6K around the traps could he do any better of which he walked over and said that i was a liar and no way that price could be had. Nearly finished i promise i then walked across the road to Good Guys and walked out 20 minutes later with the TV for $2500 and yes as childish as it is i went across the road back to JB and showed him the reciept.By the way i was never angry about the price that was offered to me no problem there but just the service no excuse for it.Other then me showing the receipt to him at no stage was i rude or untoward towards him. To me a good salesmen has great product knowledge,a great personality and great customer service, and i dont care how many tyre kickers you have to deal with treat all people with respect,i work for a major airline dealing with corporate clients all day and like all i have bad days but always treat people with respect as you never know who your talking to do you Now i have ear marked the better staff they have and only deal with them when i have enquiries so i have built rapor with these sales people and its great Cheers Ryan
sol381 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 i would have done the same but been a bit ruder.. why not rub the receipt in his face. if he wants to be an arrogant prick . treat him like one.
Wags69 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 When I was looking to purchase my tv a year ago I had done the usual running around to get prices (Myer, GG, Hardleys etc) and thought I would just ring a JB store as I was not near one at the time. So I called the store, (JB Marion) and said I was looking for a price on a particular samsung model for which I had already had some quotes on from Myer, GG's etc, and the guy just said "oh, we cant beat Myer on price, sorry", and hung up! Thing is, I hadnt even told him a price!!!!!! Tools!
aussiebalboa Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Well, didnt realise local release of Predator was out and it wasnt at Camberwell last night. So today wife had pregnancy update at mercy, popped into heidleberg JB and as usual, wasnt on the shelf, asked the staff member and they said if the "if old version is the only one we have on the shelf, then thats all we have"...he walked off, i decided to check the "boxes beneath the shelf" and what do you know, there is one ultimate edition sitting there waiting for me....$24... just checked it out and LOVE it ...much better transfer!

aussiebalboa Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 This is the best its ever looked, as long as u dont prefer the natural grain (cause there doesnt seem to be much) and it DEFINATELY does not look like the DVD.
