dynaudio_tube Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Hi everyone, I am forever waiting for my bonus Sammy 3D BD player to arrive. However, I have an audiophile setup that can take analog 7.1 inputs (can't afford to upgrade AVR yet). How good is the Samsung C6900 player's audio DAC? How does it compare with the Panasonic 3D BD player. I imagine both aren't as good as a real AVR but which is best for my situation. Basically, please recommend a 3D BD player with good 7.1 analog out. Thanks in advance. BabyDyn.

If you can wait a while longer ?? the new denon 2011's [32 bit dac] 7.1 analog output stages will probably crap over both The sooner you get even a hdmi 1.3 avr the more bd player options you'le have [ and audyssey etc which is hard to implement with analog depending on the avr] http://bluray-players.net/denon/denon-dbp-2011udci-review/
Uncle_Roy Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) a question for all of those that have received their free player or purchased one themselves, according to the specs on this player it converts dvd's to 1080p for viewing on a suitable screen.. I assume it means dvd's that are actually placed into the player itself, BUT, being a DLNA certified device, if I were to have a LAN connected media server NAS at either 100mb or 1gb and play media content from it to the c6900 connected to a suitable 1080p screen, would this player convert the content to 1080p output thus improving PQ over 1080i? current setup - PQ pretty good toppy 7160 (1080i) with .ts files on hdd ----> HDMI v1.3 ----> UA55C8000 future setup - PQ unknown LaCie Network Space 2 NAS 2Tb (DLNA Server) ----> LAN @ 100/1000Mb ----> BD-C6900 using DLNA ----> HDMI v1.3 ----> UA55C8000 comments or discussions?....my understanding was it up-scaled all content to 1080p a bit like the Onkyo 608 Edited July 23, 2010 by Uncle_Roy
oscwilde Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) AFAIK, streamed media is played back at whatever resolution the content is in....unless you force the player into 1080p mode. Even then, I'm not sure if it scales streamed media - whereas it definitely scales disc-based media. As a Q, why would you stream via the BR player when your TV can directly play streamed media over a network? The TV itself will scale any incoming media - whether it comes from the BR player or directly from a USB / networked drive. When you get the player, check both methods of streaming - via the BR or directly with the TV - and see if there's any visible difference. You may find that the BR player doesn't recognise .ts files, for example - but the TV does....so this makes the decision / method clear. Edited July 23, 2010 by oscwilde

If so, go with the Panasonic #D BD player, I got mine for $489 and is WiFi and is a fantastic player. Best thing is it has duel hdmi outputs, so you connect 1 to the tv for picture and the other to your non hdmi 1.4 receiver for sound, so you will use you receivers DAC's

I believe you mean the receiver's surround decoding will be used - rather than decoding occurring in the player.

Whether or not this does a better job than the BD player is really something you'd need to test when you get it - as I'm sure the quality of results would be dependent on the res etc. of input (assuming that the player actually scales streamed content - this would need to be forced with partic. settings in the player: BD-Wise off, 1080p on). Re: the Harmony - you can modify any activity to suit - or create another activity called "Media" or whatever....and customise every button / create macros etc. to do what you want it to do. In my Watch DVD activity, for example, the record button accesses the BR player main menu, and the Menu button accesses the disc menu. One of the screen buttons accesses the Tools menu, and the Guide, #, and * keys have been pressed into service to change other functions on the player & TV. Do what makes sense / works for you - the remote can do it...you just need to be patient with the Harmony software, which is a little frustrating (I'm being polite here) at times.

oscwilde Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Does the TV have assignable PIP features? i.e. can you be watching a stream on HDMI 1 (for example) - and choose AV1 as the PIP input? Just a thought

Just a thought nice thought indeed but it only supports the second picture source as the tv internal tuner and cannot be setup to another external source..not to worry...looks like i will have to wait...used to that!!!
shano23 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 On the Samsung website is states the player has this feature: Fewer distractions. Fuller screen To maximise your viewing experience, to truly feel the power of the on-screen portrayals, you need all the picture you can get. With the Screen Fit feature, the BDP-C6900 Blu-ray disc player’s automatically converts 21:9 aspect ratio movies to 16:9 aspect, eliminating those annoying black bands crowding the scenes. Watch movies the way they were meant to be seen - with just one touch of the screen fit button. I have looked in every menu and in the instruction booklet and I cant find it. Anyone know anything about it?
ted583 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Can someone tell me if the Samsung BDP C6900 comes with an HDMI cable in the box?

Uncle_Roy Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 quick one for all of you c6900 owners...one thing that frustrates me with this unit is the power saving "feature" that turns the unit off after a certain period of inactivity...this is a real pain in the you know what as we switch between tv and this players DLNA feature set often and each time we have to turn it back on it does a DLNA rediscover looking for any available servers which sometimes can take 3 or 4 minutes...i need to know has anyone been able to turn this feature off so when you turn it on it stays on until you power it down yourself??
