hired goon Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 (edited) G'day, Item: SGR CX4F 4-way active floor-standing speakers in ball-grained sapelli finish Location: Brisbane, Queensland Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Moving overseas Price: $7500 I am moving to the U.S. in a few months and I have reluctantly decided to sell most of my hi-fi gear. Shipping is costly and fraught with peril and I'm not keen on keeping delicate electronics in storage for a few years. I'd rather the gear go to a good home and buy whatever I need when I return. First up on the chopping block are my most recent additions: SGR CX4F 4-way active floorstanding speakers; see image here. This is a studio shot of my speakers which is used on the SGR website. The finish is "ball grained sapelli", which is a gorgeous deep red with swirly effect, and with a deep glossy finish. It is not unlike the finish on my piano. Front grills are included but are not shown in the image above; I'll try to add some more shots later. I received the very first production pair of these speakers (serial numbers 001a and 001b) in mid April 2010. I paid the full retail price of $8500. The sale price reflects the limited use that these speakers have received in the short time that I have had them, and also the fact that they are available immediately instead of the usual long wait times for new stock. These are active speakers that also include room EQ functionality. Each speaker includes an internal 100w plate amp and an external power supply. The frequency response is stated as 28Hz - 20Khz but measurements in room showed considerable output to 20Hz. There are two active inputs per speaker: one balanced, one unbalanced. The speaker can be configured to recognized either input, or both simultaneously. This latter functionality allows the connection of both a AV receiver and a 2-channel pre-amp; it is useful where the 2-channel pre-amp does not have a HT bypass. Full details are available on the SGR web-site here, and a good review by Ripping Dragon is available here. My own thoughts are available here. I will deliver these speakers to Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, etc. I have the original packing boxes if shipping is required. --Geoff Edited June 22, 2010 by hired goon
Drizt Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Outstanding speakers mate. Sorry to hear that you have to sell them due to going overseas. Good luck with the sale.
dantan Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Wonderful-looking loudspeakers, Geoff. I'll bet that they sound awesome. Great value for money, when considering that they are active loudspeakers and hence need no power amplification. Just plug them into a pre-amplifier and voila! All the Best with your sale and move overseas. Dan.
Drizt Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) You had any bites on these Geoff ? Edited June 24, 2010 by Drizt
hired goon Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 G'day, bump for you mate Thanks Drizt. If they don't sell then I've decided to put them into storage for a couple of years so I have something nice to listen to when I get back. --Geoff

Since its still a current model, Surely be demand for this kind of thing and they can move it on next time someone comes along to order one ?
hired goon Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 (edited) G'day, Can't sgr take them back ? Since its still a current model, Surely be demand for this kind of thing and they can move it on next time someone comes along to order one ? I can't see why. What do they get out of it? I'm sure any retailer would rather sell a product that puts money into their own pocket rather than mine. But it's no big deal. I think my speakers are great, and I might be more upset if they do sell than if they go into storage for a while. EDIT: I should note that the SGR rep in Brisbane has kindly offered to put these up on a consignment basis, should I choose. Not sure if I will, yet, however. --Geoff Edited July 18, 2010 by hired goon
Guest obee Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I'll look after them for ya mate............give m a run now and then (like every night), just to make sure the drivers don't sieze of course !! And I won't even charge ya storage fees !
norpus Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 (edited) I saw a pair of these - they have stunningly good looking finish When I heard them, they did not disappoint. For the money, they are a hifi bargain. I think they have something like 3 or 400 watts built in - people like me pay about the same money for just amplifiers of this power/quality , yet you get 6 drivers etc thrown in for nicks. I have heard these speakers twice now and was very impressed. They are absolutely beautiful when you see them in the flesh. I have heard them with 2 x SS18A subs and they sounded marvelous at the house of SGR. And I have heard rippingdragons pair which sound sensational as well. Can't believe nobody has put their hand up for the 001 pair of these bad boys.
hired goon Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 G'day, The SGR CX4F speakers are now in storage and are withdrawn from sale. This is good news as I will have probably the best value speaker/amp/room EQ/sub integration package in Australia waiting for me when I return from the US. Even at full retail price these are an absolute bargain IMHO. And the WAF is extremely high. Do yerself a favour, etc etc. --Geoff
