Does such a beast exist, i.e a Blu-ray player with SACD & DVD-A? The universal players that I could see in the FAQ seem to be just DVD players.

Yep there's the oppo 83 and 80 models with all the subsequent clones.

And there is also the denon DVD-a1 or 4010 or the marantz versions of the same in the 9004/8004 models.
