lonewolf1503560131 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Hey Guys, I think my power supply on the DVDO VP30 is faulty and am looking to get a replacement. I have been quoted more than a 100$ from the DVDO distributor down here for the power supply. But people have told me that i might be able to get one from Dick Smith or Jaycar etc. The power supply i need is a 6v and 7amps output. Seems to be quite a rare one, I checked the DVDO site and they have it for 50$US but sadly they wont ship international. Any ideas?

I found this link http://www.avforums.com/forums/video-scale...mines-dead.html which shows that a number of UK people bought a local replacement from http://www.compubuyz.com for UK GBP 29.99 . They ship to UK mainland and Europe and offer paypal - so you could email them and ask whether they'll also ship to Australia. It looks like a universal switchable power supply - so you'll still need to sort out which plug/polarity if you can get it. There doesn't look to be any local equivalent for this combination of voltage and current - so I think the easiest solution is to go to the DVDO distributor and buy a replacement despite its price. Considering the cost of the VP30 that would also be the safest option too.
lonewolf1503560131 Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 I was told by a user that he was able to purchase the new power supply unit from the distributors down here for 60$, So i have no idea why they quoted me 110$, Only thing i can think of is they are just trying to charge a premium for being the distributor down here.
remotebandit Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 7 Amps is massive for a 6V power supply . On this occasion i would not skimp on it as its not just the voltage and current you need to find equivelent , im sure that this original power supply would also use top notch circuitry which will also give you a VERY CLEAN 6V 7amps so that you dont get those mysterious lines and shadows in your picture that you start blaming the leads for A Dick Smith or Jaycar power supply would be garunteed to just run a single capacitor dampening . In saying this im positive your unit will have its own built in circuitry for this but if it comes in clean it will be assured to come out clean I was told by a user that he was able to purchase the new power supply unit from the distributors down here for 60$, So i have no idea why they quoted me 110$, Only thing i can think of is they are just trying to charge a premium for being the distributor down here.

If you want DVDO's power adaptor at a cheaper price you can contact Lenexpo Electronics. At the time of my purchase they were about USD20 and about US$15 for shipping. That was what I did at a time but you may find some local adaptors work just as well.

lonewolf1503560131 Posted June 19, 2010 Author Posted June 19, 2010 Yeah I went to Lenexpo site, I dont think they sell DVDO products anymore sadly. I dont think DVDO will sell direct to me because they want me to use the Australian distributor who has put on a massive markup on the same product as what DVDO sells in the US. I found the actual manufacturer of the power supply in Hong Kong or someplace, but they dont normally deal with only 1 or 2 units and they have quoted me a price but the problem is the shipping is quite high (if i buy 1 unit or a lot more i think they charge me the same amount for shipping) that once i pay for it all and convert it into Au$ then it is not that much cheaper than buying from the australian distributor.
