iTalk Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Hi everyone, I was wondering, what's better option to get the best out of the 2.35:1 and 1.85:1 worlds ? What's cheaper ? Get the Panasonic AE-4000 projector or buy a cheaper 16:9 with an anamorphic lens ? Are there any ratio adjustment required by software when using the anamorphic lens ? How do people get rid of side wight bits on the projector screen when you watch the 1.85:1 contents ? I'm illiterate when it comes to HT, so your help is very much appreciated Regards
Johnny_Boy Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 you really need to have a budget, eitherway the lens is going to cost 2k min. the projector will most likely be above 3k as well. If 3k is your budget, get just the projector and zoom if you do want the scope expereince.
bbar Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) Hi everyone,I was wondering, what's better option to get the best out of the 2.35:1 and 1.85:1 worlds ? What's cheaper ? Get the Panasonic AE-4000 projector or buy a cheaper 16:9 with an anamorphic lens ? I would say the AE4000 and scope screen as say A BenQ 6000 plus lens with corrector will cost about $2,000 more that the Panny solution. Are there any ratio adjustment required by software when using the anamorphic lens ? When using a lens the projector or blu-ray player must support anamorphic stretch. If it does not then the lens won't work. How do people get rid of side wight bits on the projector screen when you watch the 1.85:1 contents ? Most don't and I don't but others have side curtains they pull over and others have fully motorised masking systems. Prior is about to release one in the 3K range. Gregoryc1970 Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Thank you very much for your thorough replies I guess the Panasonic projector will be my only choice Hi there, there is another option, which is the Mitsubishi HC-6800. It's a 1080P projector with a 2.35 scope zoom feature. You can use the zoom function now and then when money permits, look for a lens. FYI, there is a company that sells lenses out of the USA called Anamorphic Research. You may like to check them out. They sell a lens called the AR2 for about $US995. It is a prism type lens which has certain limitations regarding placement but you will be using all of your available pixels and get the brightest image. I have the 6800 and am thrilled with the picture quality. Very sharp. Please PM me if you want further details. I can probably point you in the right direction re projectors as well.
