Meanwhile, Foxtel chief executive Kim Williams, who is closing in on his 10th year at the helm, will speak a day later on the "rise of the digital economy".

Foxtel will make two announcements this week: the first will be about showing a coming Socceroo friendly in 3D (revealed yesterday) and the second is likely to be about a content deal with a well-known consumer platform.

Foxtel and Telstra tensions

3D thread already established.

Any clues as to what the content deal is?

Perhaps that little used Ethernet port may come alive...

That would be my guess...looking to find out one way or the other.

I know, I know, Thursdays not far off

Its my guess.

Last year someone at foxtel said the Ethernet port will be enabled in 2010

That would be awesome. Should be free for Foxtel subscribers.

At the risk of sounding like a halfwit, what does that mean? You won't need a Foxtel box if you have a Samsung TV?

Some if not all new 2010 Samsung TV are internet connect which allows you to access Samsung apps which has youtube and allows for movie downloads from bigpond movies so what foxtel COULD do is allow there foxtel download service to be on Samsung TV or maybe live streaming of tv could also be allowed via broadband but i dont think the last one would be allowed because it would cost foxtel alot to do.

In the UK Sky have "Sky Player" now, on which you can watch all the good Sky Channels - you can get Sky Player on a PC, on Media Center, on an Xbox - and you don't need to have a Sky Box. Might just be foxtel download at this stage, but eventually Foxtel will let viewers watch via the internet.

After reading this article (http://www.channelnews.com.au/Content_And_Management/IPTV/S8N6Q7C4) they may do live iptv like sky player in the UK, that said it hasnt been comformed by foxtel whats been said in the article so how knows, after looking at the foxtel download website seeing that i no longer have foxtel i would be willing to pay a small fee just for that, if they do decide to do live iptv even if they only parnter with telstra i think it could be real big move by them, now i just wished i waited a bit longer to by my Samsung tv.

I'm another halfwit so I assume Telstra and other ISP will make a fortune from the internet connections even Foxtel site that allows viewing of their shows is metered unlike say the AFL which is unlimited with Telstra and only having a 12GB allowance it will cost me heaps even if I upgrade to the next level 25GB!

this story might have something to do with it;

http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Comment/D5C5B5C9?page=1

The original statement from newspaper story was "Foxtel will make two announcements this week: the first will be about showing a coming Socceroo friendly in 3D (revealed yesterday) and the second is likely to be about a content deal with a well-known consumer platform."

Televisions in general are a consumer platform, Samsung televisions in particular are a consumer item, whereas the Xbox is a consumer platform.

But who knows

Game on for Foxtel live TV streaming MICHAEL IDATO

Foxtel has signed a deal with Microsoft to deliver 30 channels of pay TV over the internet.

The 30 channel service will be streamed live to users of the XBox 360.

The channels included in the package are Fox Sports, Discovery, ESPN, Disney, Nickeoldeon and Sky News.

Foxtel CEO Kim Williams said the service would deliver "live television to subscribers in quite a unique way".

The service does not require the Foxtel set-top unit.

It will be launched later this year.

A similar service was launched in the UK with Sky, and in France on the Canal Plus platform.

There are approximately one million XBox 360 console owners in Australia, roughly half of which are already signed up to the console's "live" service.

The XBox 360 system allows television viewers in different locations to communicate, either on screen or using audio headset, while they watch the same program.

Williams said the service would capitalise on the growing trend, particularly with younger viewers, of using social networking tools while watching television.

The service will require an XBox "gold" account. Pricing for the service will be released later this year.

Williams said at least two ISPs, which he declined to name, were planning to offer the service "unmetered", which means the downloaded data required to use it would not count against their plan.

He would not say whether 3D services would be delivered by the service, but pointed out that both the XBox360 and Foxtel IQ2 devices were both 3D-capable devices.

Last year Foxtel launched a TV download service free of charge for is subscribers which was intended to pave the way for a live streaming service.

Another success for internet carried television? NBN isn't even here yet and the market is alread heating up.

Success? How?

Two companies known for expensive services (although at least LIVE has something interesting) getting togther... I wonder what the price and picture quality will be

What are the Foxtel Mobile costs? And how many subscribers do you think they have?

Success? How?

XBOX Live Sub ($60 odd), plus a Foxtel sub (up to $120), plus a Foxtel XBOX subsription ($$??) plus internet download usage? (coz the unmetered service will probably be with two internet companies no one uses)

Or can you do this independent of a Foxtel sub? (ie you can have a Foxtel XBOX sub instead of a Fox and XBOX Fox sub)

Success?

And just wonder how 'great' the picture will look.... and no PVR function

A substantial number of people with an XBOX have a live account already. As to why there are two Foxtel subscription fees... did you just make that up?

The success part, because it was clearly missed, is that its possible to do.

As you could tell, because I edited my original post, I read more information that mentioned it would be a stand alone sub fee. Hence why I edited my post... *sigh*

Almost everyone with an internet enabled X360 has a live account. However, of all the people I know with 360's none of them have a GOLD account, which is what you need for this service

Also, because it was clearly missed, I asked a question in regards to if it was an independent subscription. You see the question right underneath the sentence about where I speculated on prices? See it? Its there... so I didnt make anything up, it was a speculation. Next time I'll put the words *hypothetical* or *I'm just guessing* so you know, ok?

With the possible to do thing, hasnt TPG being doing IPTV for a while now? Sure its not on XBOX LIVE, but all the XBOX does it act as the conduit to deliver the picture to the TV.

Please accept my appologies. Unfortuntely *sigh* my crystal ball is not currently functioning and I was not able to foresee the changes you were making to your post while I was making mine.

Once again, I do appologise for this.

Perhaps you shouldnt jump the gun and be so eager to post in every thread, especially in threads where you want to attack other people.

Ah yes, and how precisely did I 'attack' you and exactly how long after you make a post should someone wait before replying to it? Is 5 minutes too short a period?
