Lack Of New Programming On Foxtel

Recommended Posts

I know that Foxtel is famous for the way it repeats shows ad nauseum, but generally they throw into their schedule a few premier shows to keep the faithful interested.

However, maybe it's just the case with the channels I'm watching but so far this year there has been NOTHING. No shows along the lines of Dexter, Crime Investigation Australia, Satisfaction, Air Crash Investigation etc etc. Just premier episodes of long running serials such as Eastenders and cheap import talk shows. Am I missing something??

They even seemed to have abandoned episodes of series that they had premiered last year, such as Larkrise to Candleford and Cranford. Both have later series which have been out so long they have reached dvd.

Do they think that providing copious movie channels (playing the same old movies) and new lifestyle channels (again repeating what has been shown before) will cover for their lack of spending on new shows?

I've been a defender of Foxtel in the past but am very close to dropping it for Tivo or a twin tuner PVR.

Looks like it's very slim pickings if you don't watch Arena, or any channels with Lifestyle or MTV in their name! :o

With so many reruns on Foxtel, it seems unusual that anyone would actually need an iQ box... :P

I'm still waiting for the new seasons of Chuck & This Old House <_<

channel 9 said when they were launching GO they would stop selling selected shows on to foxtel from there Warner brothers output deal, this includes shows like gossip girl but not sure if 9 is still selling this show to foxtel and also chuck which is now on GO so maybe nine has decided to stop selling these shows to foxtel

Not only do Fox churn the same old tired shows, they delay buying new seasons of shows they're thrashing until they're thrashed to death. Also there are so many paid commercial breaks and cross-promotional breaks for shows on other channels (plus the channel you're watching) that it's getting wiorse than free to air tv. Then add the indignity that we're paying a premium price for this pap. If Foxtel don't lift they're game I'm seriously considering cancelling my sub. If they ask me nicely I may even leave their festering old Pace box on the front porch for them to collect lol

Have watched foxtel for nearly 15 years. Not once have I watched a repeat. What I cant believe is that some other long time subscribers havent worked out how to watch foxtel. These are your problems.

1. You limit yourself to one or two favourite channels.

2. You havent realised that foxtel has new premier episodes of shows once a week like the free to air channels. Then they repeat it for those who have missd the 1st airing.

It is that simple.

Agree 100% Timy.

I don't watch FTA so every show that many call repeats are new to me. When Glee starts on FOX 8 it will be the first time I will be seeing this show. I like replays of programs as it means I can not only get to watch shows I have never seen before eg The Saint, Chuck, Supernatural etc but also catch a program I have previously missed.

And I don't think anyone is buying the line that "I only subscribed for this show or this channel etc". If you get Foxtel for just one show, go out and buy or rent the box set.

If you don't like Foxtel unsubscribe. No-one buys the "I'll unsubscribe" threat. Just do it if your going to unsubscribe. Some people on this forum have been saying they are going to unsubscribe for the last 2-3 years. And yet they are still here and still saying they are unsubscribing.

.... tried searching for the show in a range of ways - I may be wrong but I could not find any reference to the show at all - a good friend's husband works for foxtel so I will try and get info. I have EVERY season from 1979, backed up onto DVD (and believe me, they cost plenty in dollars and time to get!) and now it seems like I won't be able to get any more .... .****

BTW the show is not available on DVD anywhere and the producers will not respond to emails requesting a timeline or even a reason why they have not been made. I bought original VHS copies when they were available and spent bloody years tracking down folks who had home recordings. It gave me some comfort that I could at least digitally record the more recent seasons onto my equipment .... anyway enough ranting from me - I will let people know if Austar and The Lifestyle Channel bother to respond to my questions.

And the bonus of seeing it on Fox8HD instead of channel 10 is that you get to see it in full HD unlike the awful picture quality that 10 gives us these days. It's just a pity that Foxtel won't put Law & Order CI/SVU shows on HD channels so we don't have to watch it on 10.

I've only had foxtel for a little over a year. Yes, the initial excitement has worn off - but there is something for everyone if you look at it objectively.

But look at the alternative:

I only recently turned on free to air again after a years absence. More CSI / LAW and Order - no movies to speak of - you have to be kidding.

Over the past 7 years I have enjoyed many of the renovation/restoration shows on offer. Luckily, I recorded most.

I searched again for the following shows today:

RENOVATIONS (US based show, specialising in 150-300 yr old homes)

THIS OLD HOUSE

NEW YANKEE WORKSHOP

THE HOUSE THAT JOHN REBUILT (UK show following the renovation of a 400 yr old home)

DREAM HOMES and DREAM BUILDERS - quality show dedicated to classic home styles and building

.... there were other series I watched and recorded, but I can't remember their names - anyway, none of them are on any more and I can get o information from AUSTAR, LIFESTAYLE or HOW-TO as to their return.

The theory is that they would be replaced by other quality shows, but I am yet to see any that stack up .... and I look! Working in the field of period architecture, these shows were invaluable to me and the wife even enjoyed them so it says a bit about their broader appeal .... anyway, enough ranting from me .... if I find anything more out I'll let ppl know.

BTW I am 100% with you regarding the bloody godawful crime shows/medical shows and alleged reality shows that are on - they're dross!
