I've been running into trouble with my Strong SRT 5490 PVR an will need to replace the HDD. Unfortunately the unit won't boot with the original drive inside so I can't dump my recordings over ethernet. I've tried mounting the HDD in an external USB case but can't pick up the file system under either windows or Linux. Is there a way to directly extract the recordings off of the disk drive?

Try reading this thread http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...ystem&st=20 for ideas there may be others more specifically for your model.

You could try something like this http://sourceforge.net/projects/pvrexplorer-pro/

I also remember a PC User article a couple of years ago about extracting recordings from PVR/DVR HDD's but I can't remember the programme they used to read the PVR HDD's filesystem.

Spend a few hours on Google and search around here, I'm sure someone here will have some more suggestions.

Though if the HDD is dead it may be difficult to get anything.

Good luck

Spent all night using Google and searching around the forum before I posted the message. Had already tried both options above without success.

The HDD isn't dead, I just think a key piece data has been corrupted. I've put an old HDD I had sitting around in the PVR and done some test records. I using the old HDD to experiement on, but so far luck.

A follow on from the PCUser article :

http://darrenyates.com.au/2008/09/review-d...-boxdiy-pvr/379

The software mentioned there is being hosted on:

http://home.exetel.com.au/billscomputers/

Scroll to the Software section at the bottom and try a version of the Tiny UDF mounter software either Panomax or Sigmatek, though this is only going to work if the File system being used is TinyUDF and I don't know if the Strong is using Tiny UDF.

Unfortunately the Strong's file format appears to be incompatible with the software used above. I just ended up reformatting the drive and sticking it back into the PVR so I had a working unit. It would be nice to be able to rip direct from the HDD in the futue though, as the FTP transfer is pretty slow.
