Hi guys do you think we should start a petition to get movie network to remove their annoying watermarks from the screen. And what pisses me of even more is 3 minutes into the movie they have (broadcast in high definition where available logo comes up). None of the showtime channels have this that is why i boycot movie network channels if possible.

The ultimate protest is to disconcert and if enough people do it they will get the message

Have a look at this email i got when i emailed them:

Thank you for your e-mail.

It has long been our practice to watermark channels, particularly since

we launched our new channels, as an appropriate way to help identify the

Movie Network Channels package.

In terms of the HD banner, we think it is important to let our viewers

know the options they have available to them. We are very sorry if this

causes any inconvenience to your viewing.

What crap!!! Like I care about WHAT channel I am watching WHILE I am watching the movie. Identify it for whom exactly????

Fine, but do it BEFORE the movie starts.

They really think us viewers must be stupid.

Cancel the MNC package. Rent the DVD (BD). It'll work out far cheaper and you'll send a clear message that you find the watermarking unaceptable.

Actually no it didn't. There were three 'Showtime' program streams. The primary, a 2 hour delay without a watermark and a 2 hour delay with a barely visible watermark. The +2 branded one persisted for quite a while after Foxtel and Austar's east coast STBs no longer referred to it. Its possible that Foxtel's STBs in WA referred to it at this time.

Perhaps we are about to say the same thing here, but what I meant (and probably should have said was) on cable analogue I remember there being a 2 watermark on Showtime +2 even after Digital was launched, however on Digital cable and satellite and legacy satellite there was no "2" on the channel

Although this is going back many many years ago now (2004...?) when I was but a wee newbie in the connection team.

Of course, there is a good chance I am completely wrong... but I know I do remember that pesky "2" watermark on Showtime +2 (definately analogue cable, and definately NOT on digital cable). In fact, and my memory MAY be stretching it a little here, but I am sure after a little while the analogue cable versions of Showtime and Showtime Greats went into letter-box mode... again, I may be making this up... but I dont think I am

You are correct about the "2" logo - it appears on an old movie that I taped off Showtime +2 many many years ago (from the analogue box)! :)

In as much as station identifiers do not make viewing of any channel more enjoyable they do, in fact, identify us all as morons (or that is how the channels see us)!

The email reply is indicative of their stupidity as the word “watermark” is defined as ‘a faint design made in some paper during manufacture, that is visible when held against the light and typically identifies the maker.’ Just imagine what would happen if we placed water on our TV screen B) I for one would like to see them be honest and say that it is a station promo.

And if disconcerting achieves nothing, he should probably try disconnecting next.
