Shah Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I have a LG DVDR and when using Time Recording to the hard drive I sometimes find it doesnt record. I enter everying and the last thing to enter is "Once" or "repeat". When "once" is highlighted I pressed enter. Correct details of the program to be recorded appear on the time recordinglist and it indicates everything is ok. But next morning the item I wanted to record is not on the hard drive. I seem to recall that sometimes after entering all the information I press "return" and I dont think I had the problem. I suspecct it is when I press "enter" and not "return" that causes the problem. I have read the instructions and it is not clear but seems that pressing "enter" is ok. Anyone had this experience?

Which model LG DVDR? I know my old LG DVDR sometimes wouldn't record if the local clock wasn't close enough to the broadcast time from the TV station when it switched on to start recording, but setting the clock to Manual rather than Auto fixed that, unfortunately if we ever had a power failure it would lose the time and switch itself back to Auto. This isn't relevant if your recorder only has an analogue tuner however. My LG also wouldn't timer record anything if it wasn't left in standby mode, if it was turned on a warning message would appear when a recording should be starting but it wouldn't actually record anything unless it was turned off (into standby mode), this was fairly standard for LG's and most old style VCR's also work the same way. ie. most old VCR's will only timer record if they are in Standby/Timer record mode and not being used to play/watch something.

Hi Lapworth, It is only about 1 year old (RH 188 or similar model) I am sure the answer lies in how you finish the set up and whether you press the "enter" or the "return" button. But I cant understand why it shows up as everything being OK in the playlist?

From my brief read of the manual it looks like you need to press enter at the end of setting everything to store the timer settings, then press return to exit from the timer list. I think if it shows up as OK in the Record List then the only other problems might be that the unit wasn't put into standby (it won't timer record if it is turned on), the clock isn't set or there's insufficient space on the HDD or DVD-R. Or it could be faulty, if it's only about 1 year old, it should still be under warranty.
