pike_d Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 (edited) All, I've moved into a place with a horrendous open lounge. I had a very average 5.1 system I don't want to set up in it, and I gave away the .1. So, I'm looking for 2.1 recommendations for around AUD $500. I have budget ears to go with it, and am quite happy with the sound of hi-fi systems you can get for that price - only I don't need the central deck. If music sounds good enough on the system, movie reproduction will satisfy me also. I have a Sony STR DG820 receiver that may now serve no purpose in the scheme of things. Can be set up to feed out to an active sub. I probably wouldn't object to the sound-bar style setup and have seen the HT-CT100 mentioned, but am open to anything people might suggest. Thoughts, please? Edited May 8, 2010 by pike_d
betty boop Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 a 2.1 system of any sort of quality that includes a sub as well for $500 ? forget it. what your looking at is computer style logitech systems or a basic little htib system but thats about it for $500. looking second hand might find a bit better but that will just depend whats out there. keep in mind a decent bookshelf/stand mount speaker itself can cost $500. same with a 2ch amp. a sub yoru looking at around the $1k mark for anything decent. so thats $2k all up, if just a 2ch system ie no sub then yeah about $1k. best thing is to go out check out whats available in your budget and buy whatever suits your need.
