Made a few changes in recent months to my HT system and one disc I always return to is CR, primarily for AQ but imo the PQ still stands up on this pretty well too, given it was one of the earliest releases on BR interesting again imo that I still believe it would sit inside my top ten BR's, thoughts and opinions welcomed......

please note I have the deluxe edition of this which is in Dolby True HD

Just watched it again last week and have to agree. PQ and AQ are excellent.

It's also one of the great Bond films - QoS was such a disappointment in comparison.

Not any more .... my current fav demo disc is 2012!

Iron Man is mine for a whole film ..... 2012 and Knowing for select scenes ..... "The Fall" for PQ & cinematography, followed by Baraka.

Yeah it was great fun. On my 'to buy' list when I feel like a 2nd screening.

Is the Deluxe edition better for audio??

........just checked http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=10779

Looks like the only differences are the PCM to Dolby TrueHD & an extra disc of supplements.

Though many versions are cut, it doesn't seem anything of much significance are edited out.

nothing beats Sin City for demo

I love this one too.

Also, Hot Fuzz.

I've always felt the DTHD track had more depth to the sound field, that's not to say there was anything wrong with the PCM track just a matter of my listening opinion......

I agree mate and I will certainly play it for you on May 15th during my first GTG but I just noticed the Deluxe has a Dolby Try HD track and the "normal" one has a PCM track. Never heard the DTHD track so would you mind bringing it?

Cheers

Have to agree with Iron Man Chops. My new reference for Bass though is "9" (The Tim Burton Co-Produced animation) and also select scenes from "Knowing" & "Cloverfield".

A good opportunity to discuss trailers that totally blow you away. I know that not many employ the HD soundtracks, but there are many that really get you "pumped." The trailer for Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind knocks my socks off!

Back on topic - the opening scenes from CR are without doubt, some of the most visually exciting HD scenes to be seen.

Yet another what disc to use for demos thread...

Well I use "9" and "Star Trek", M and M for ambience.

For outrageous bass - Uni Soldier Regeneration and Hurt Locker is fine too.

I would disagree with that Pete, this was one of the original big BR releases, I never asked anyone to put their demo discs in, I asked what people still thought of it as demo material, how people reply is beyond my control.....

as stated imo CR is still one of the best out there and I could include 10 others that have not been mentioned but that's not the intent......

cheers....

As far as comparing the PCM and TrueHD tracks, I whipped out my old 'Casino Royale' Blu-ray, and picked three scenes (the opening credit sequence with the Chris Cornell title tune, the foot chase and the airport interception), and did some back-to-back comparisons. After flipping between the two Blu-rays about ten times, I would give a very slight thumbs up to the PCM in terms of low bass. The airport sequence in particular felt ever-so-slightly more robust in the bottom on the PCM than the TrueHD. I also thought the title song sounded somewhat wider in the mid-range on the PCM, at least when I had the sound blasting at a very high volume. In all honestly, however, these results reveal such a negligible difference it could just as easily be subjective hearing. If nothing else, the two Blu-ray versions of 'Casino Royale' will provide nothing but more fodder for the ongoing PCM vs. TrueHD debate.

and yet I would go the other way mate but what always needs to be remembered but oft forgotten (including myself ) is the differing sources people use, from player to amp to speakers to sub it's all going to make a difference........ :)

Going off the screenies, it seems you like that closeup of Craig talking on the phone very much!

;]

They reminded me of the product placement in this film. I remember it being pretty blatant - Sony Ericsson, Ford & others I think. Maybe i'm paying too much attention to it..

yeah mate, I remember when we were taking the shots how vibrant it seemed on the screen, so we try to step each shot on pause but didn't quite come to the same look, I also received several royalty cheques soon after......... :ninja:

yorac, am in full 100% agreement here.

The quality of this Dolby True HD soundtrack is amazing. The first fight scene gives any system a good work out in all areas. It's always one of my test discs on any system.
