Fouler
As an opposite to the Falling Dollar thread of late last year... With the A$ moving upward, has it risen enough to get you importing more from overseas? It's well known of late that Amazon UK has had some great deals with their 3 for 2 offer. The US, where the range is bigger, is where my eye is at the moment. Am now waiting for a decent Amazon sale now that the A$ is worth around 74c. Does anyone expect this resurgence to continue? Storm clouds loom with next tuesday's Federal Budget, when the awful truth is laid out in black & white. I'm concerned that this is going to see an immediate plummet in our currency. Any thoughts? tonyjg
I've just spent about $200 at Amazon UK on a few orders (albiet Book / DVDs / CDs and 3 Blu-rays (3 for 2 - Close Encounters / Casino Royale SE / Narnia 2) mainly because the UK store has a lot of specials going on (and not just Blu !!). (However there are only a few Blu titles that I would even consider in this sale !!) Some non-Blu discounts = Rendition DVD - 2.59 pds (after VAT), Damages S1 - 4.98 pds, State of Play (BBC series which new Russell Crowe film is based on) - 3.98 pds. But whilst the $A might go up - the 'awful' truth is that there is no one in this world that can predict ANYTHING financial in these times - as the upcoming BUDGET DEFICIT is a good example. I wouldn't overdo any spending - you have no idea what may happen to your employment / finances in the next 12mths - as I have seen in my area of the IT job market. auswoffer
Never imported BD, but like to buy a few books that are hard to get here from US Amazon. Only got a Region B PS3. But am planning a holiday in the States, so I will buy up Traveller cheque & currency when it hits US$0.75. I'd like to lock that rate in. Was over in the States a few years ago when it was over US$0.90 Edited May 5, 2009 by auswoffer
ausnew
Taking into account the prices for blus on Amazon US, plus shipping, prices still look too expensive for me at 0.75c when compared to the UK
50mxe20
I think the increased value of the dollar will have to be sustained before one sees any effect. Based on past history, tomorrow it could fall back again. And 0.75 is probably not enough.
Redav
And 0.75 is probably not enough. Probably agree but is it better than nothing? I haven't seriously considered buying anything yet but knowing me I'd probably hedge my bets and get a coupla titles I'm after.
youngstar
Yeah I have been ordering more from Amazon UK than US of late. Plenty of BD's available at under 10 pounds which means you can land then here for under $20 AUD. Also great to not have to worry whether it is region free or not. Am sure I will be back to Amazon.com when they have there next decent sale though.

pbouzaid
Yep, thanks to the nice AUS->GPB convo rate at the moment + 30% off boxset sale at amazon UK I just took the plunge and ordered the Star Trek Movie Boxset. Save about $60 off the JB price.
ditroia
Picked up Iron Man US BR from Deep Discount for $30 US including shipping. Same as the AU/UK one but with a slip case, and the Amaray Sleeve is different. http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01...c6f63d110.L.jpg http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01...c6f63d110.L.jpg I also picked up a sealed copy of Indian Jones 4 2 disc from ebay for less than $17 US delivered. digitalj
I think someone upset the Aussie dollar, it was just under 75 US Cents, now it's back down to 73.7 US Cents, likewise it had been up at about 0.497 GBP, now it's back down to about 0.49 GBP. Fouler
Lesson for the day: Never count your chickens before they've hatched! Exactly. I'm just about to do an Amazon UK order and as the expected despatch date is 13 May, I think I'll pay in A$ rather than £'s. If my currency gamble fails then I'll be happy to order from the US next week. This currency switch option seems to have disappeared from Amazon US. momaw
Still good prices to be has from the US. An order for 4 titles (all new releases) from Amazon I split with my sister came to $33 a title landed. None of them are available in Australia (well 2 are but only in a box set and I didn't want the third) and if they were, would be around the $39.95 mark (only a very few actually get the nice Big W price treatment and those are usually big new releases). So prices are good at the moment. A little better than local prices. I have found that if you buy in lots of say 4 plus movies, unless the Aussie Dollar is having a very bad day, you aren't paying more than local prices, but have the luxury of a better range and all the nice bonus we don't get on the local versions. Guest john-andrew
Well, it is almost time for me to have another look at US Amazon. I never have a problem on imported Blu-ray orders even though some are region 'A' locked. The rising dollar is a good reason to buy now. How about Dexter Season 2?
