Toshiba 57x3000a 1080p Lcd - Opinions?

Hi all,

Time to be purchasing again, this time for the sitting room, and I saw a Toshiba 57X3000A 1080P LCD on display recently, and it was a fantastic picture. My previous screen size was 72" DLP Toshiba, which gave a stunning picture, and I'm not too keen on going down too much in display size, however 57" is Toshiba's largest LCD and the minimum size I'd consider going to.

Toshiba do not seem to be talked about much in this Forum when LCD screens are discussed, which seems a shame given the quality of picture and warranty on offer for these sets, but not to worry.

I was just wondering what people's opinions were on this set - whether you own one and can give an opinion, or whether you might have done some serious comparison to an equivalent set and can give other opinions on them as well.

Thanks for any assistance by way of opinion anyone can offer.

In the US 57" may be a fairly common size for flat panel TV's and hence more affordable, but here in Aus 57" LCD's or similar have previously been very expensive and not comparable to 58/60" Plasma panels in terms of price. 58" Samsung Plasma's can be had for $4400 or thereabouts and the 57 Tosh has aways been more than twice that. This may explain why not may on here have bought them. Even the new 55" Bravia's are coming in at 6.5K which is too exe for most and dont offer good value for money. For the kind of money you would put down on a Tosh you could probably get a Pioneer LX608 which is regarded by most as the best flat panel TV full stop.

I love Tosh products and think they are well engineered and built, but the price..... I would be interested to know what sort of price you can get the Tosh for?

Hi there Bertzz,

They are listed at Sunnybank Hi-Fi for around mid $6k's (other stores have them for similar + or - prices at around that figure as well), but with some judicious haggling, I can't see at or a bit below that $6k mark as unachievable. Even HN's seem happy to bargain with price of that set, but I haven't donned my serious haggling hat on just yet and was waiting for opinions on either this set, or a comparably specced one as good as this set seems to be.

You should check out the Samsung LA55A950 on the GB as a comparison. On the GB it will come in well under the price you are talking about above and its the latest tech, but maybe not quite as good build quality as the Toshi.
