Adelaideltpc Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Hi guys, Watched 1 & 2 so far, but for the life of me I could not find the subtitle option any where. Pressing the subtitle on the remote does not work either. However the back cover/box lists a number of languages for subtitle. Can someone point out to me where the subtitle option is? BTW -i'm using PS3 if that matters. Cheers...
auswoffer Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I notice that too, when I watch First Blood on the PS3. I figured, it didn't have any subtitles. I guess they left them out so as to sell them for $40.

I guess they left them out so as to sell them for $40. That's what I thought as well. But the back cover does have a list of subtitiles available. I'm gonna try Rambo 3 in a minute to find out. Watching Sly's movies @ nite, i think subtitle is essential! *Edit* Just tried Rambo 3 - just the same as the other 2 - NO SUBTITLE either. Can others please confirm if they can access subtitle or not. Edited December 4, 2008 by Adelaideltpc
Adelaideltpc Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 Ahhhh .... just found the answer. There are .... NO SUBTITLES despite whatever it says on the box! http://www.amazon.com/Really-no-subtitles/...asin=B0015XHP4A
auswoffer Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 My youngest son had trouble understanding Sly in the last scene of First Blood? I tried to put on the subtitles, but no luck.
Gutty Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Hahahahaha... what a crack up. Needing subtitles, not becasue of hearing imparement, not because of foreign language... just because it's Stallone Guess it could be classed as a foreign language..

kawara Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 There are subtitles in 1 and 2 I haven't check 3 yet. You have to choose UK instead of Australia in the very first screen to get subtitle. However the PQ is crap.

However the PQ is crap. Kawara, Thanks for that tip. Do they think us Aussie can't read? I guess I'll have to watch the last scene with my son again. I thought it was pretty powerful scene, considering the Vietnam War was still fairly fresh when it was made. The PQ isn't the best. The dark scenes don't come out too well. I still enjoyed though. Have to watch First Blood 2 this weekend.

tb1231503560936 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 what did you guys think about the sound quality of First Blood? I thought the PQ was pretty average, but the sound just wasnt "there". Most of it seemed to be coming from the centre channel and there was no real grunt in any of the sound effects. I know the movie is probably 20 years old, but when buying on BD with DTS HD MA as the soundtrack, I expected a lot more. Maybe I've just been spolit by modern movies. Might have to hire the DVD version to compare. cheers TB

Adelaideltpc Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 what did you guys think about the sound quality of First Blood? One word - CR#P! From memory, it sounds the same as when i watched it on VHS about 25 yrs ago :-) I guess even DTS HD MA can't improve it....
tb1231503560936 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I guess even DTS HD MA can't improve it.... I guess it's just higher quality CR@P then. CR@P in all it's glory if you like Was actually disappointed in it with respects to PQ and SQ. Should have just bought the DVD and saved some dough
bernng Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Should have just bought the DVD and saved some dough Can't complain if you bought the BR trilogy for $40! That's the same price as the DVD version!!

That's the reason I bought it too, however the point of getting it on BluRay was to see it all bright and sparkly with great sound. I got neither. I buy BluRays to keep as top quality classic movies or "keepers" Could have hired it or as mentioned, bought the DVD for the quality I got to relive the memories.

Glad that I paid only $40 (actually $43.xx) for the boxset. If i don't like them i can offload them on FleaBay and get my $ back! :-)
auswoffer Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 (edited) Watched First Blood Part 2. The PQ & AQ were an improvement on First Blood. The Son enjoyed Part 2. We has the subtitles on. The subtitle don't match the dialogue 100% though. Watch rented "The Deer Hunter" last night. Great movie with a great transfer. Excellent cast, great photography, haunting soundtrack. Very powerful film, but not one I could watch too often. A very welcome addition to BD. Edited December 7, 2008 by auswoffer
Kennerado Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I know dude I LOVE The Deer Hunter, plus its not out in the US yet. Great transfer of that for sure.
