fromoz Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Hi All I recently got a 9 pin dongle to allow my video card to output component. This card has an optical input as well. I have 2 15 metre cables running from my pc to hdtv (component and optical). I can get the multiple desktop working on the hdtv but there is no optical sound coming through, even though its plugged in. The reason Im doing all of this is to watch some bluray vids (mkv) What would be the problem? Also, on the playback of video to hdtv from pc I get a line through the video. Its a line that looks like its interlaced but is only now and then. What could this be? One last question, sorry. How can I play a vid full screen on the computer and be able to use the computer at the same time (as hdtv is cloning the desktop) whilst watching a movie? Cheers

I have 2 15 metre cables running from my pc to hdtv (component and optical). I can get the multiple desktop working on the hdtv but there is no optical sound coming through, even though its plugged in. The reason Im doing all of this is to watch some bluray vids (mkv) What would be the problem? I'm assuming these MKVs have embedded AC3 audio? If so, what audio filters are you using and how are they setup? I'd suggest looking at AC3Filter and setting it up for SPDIF passthrough mode - if you're using software decoding, you're not going to get much in the way of output via optical (maybe 2-channel PCM, but that's about it). Also, on the playback of video to hdtv from pc I get a line through the video. Its a line that looks like its interlaced but is only now and then. What could this be? What kind of quality is the component cable? If it's a cheaper cable, could just be due to the longer run distance. One last question, sorry. How can I play a vid full screen on the computer and be able to use the computer at the same time (as hdtv is cloning the desktop) whilst watching a movie? Using an 8600GT, you can't. Clone mode is just that, everything you get on the HDTV, you get on the monitor. I'm not aware of any method of getting dual desktop support using the 8600GT (I also use this card, and it frustrated the hell out of me for some time). Not sure if it's a driver issue or the card itself. Ironic really, considering I could do it with my older 6600GT, but then of course I couldn't do (smooth) HD playback... Cheers, athe.
