betty boop Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Well here goes ! the big bad denon universal is out the bag ! well some info on it anyways from our friends on AVS http://www.denon.co.jp/company/release/dvda1ud.html http://www.denon.co.jp/company/release/pdf/dvda1ud.pdf The press release has been advanced, it was this afternoon. You have all the information on http://www.denon.co.jp/company/release/dvda1ud.html including pictures and all. It's exactely the same that I saw. There is no too much to translate that I didn't said in my previous thread. Some point need to be noticed: - Internal DTS-Neo6 and DoblyProIIx intern which is very very nice if you want to use analog. - no 24p output for DVD - As I said it's the same video processing than the BD-3800, except that they include a DVDO scaller for the component output (1080i) - the remote controler looks like crap. I thought it was a prototype at the last press conference but no, it's the final one - It's Denon link 4th gen, jitter free. Upgrade will be available for the AVP-A1HD and the AVC-A1HD (The high end Pre/Pro and the high end Surround) to be compatible (unknown date). Further model should have it. - Marketing told me that it was dual diff on every channel but I kind of doubt about it now. - BD-live not yet, it will be available in a further firmware - no intern Clock controller like on the SX serie (SACD player) -> Jitter free for Denon Link - No Hi-Bit colour upconvertion like Sony or Pioneer, however the REALTA works with 10bits from the 8bits source so there may be a 8->10bits conversion somewhere and output 10 bits deep colour on HDMI. I will check more the info but the internal DoblyProIIx is a very good news for analog people with 7 speaker. As Denon said at their last presentation, they focused on audio, Pioneer focused on video If you have questions ask me can just imagine the likely price on the thing ! but certainly nothing like it either out there or on the cards from anyone else
cwt Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) First time Ive seen dac's like this- 32bit/192kHz D / A Converter Noticed this [poor translation] hdmi audio over DL4 to an avp a1 or avc; great symmetry DENON LINK 4th in the library with the Blu-ray and HD obtained from the transmission of voice in the HDMI connection, AV surround amplifier D / A converters to run DENON LINK master clock and return to the player and each other While sharing the same clock to run integrated circuits in low-jitter transmission of digital audio has been achieved Totally balanced cd playback for the balanced avp ;very nice .. 2ch analog-only circuits, the balance of power configuration and the route to be employed full-balanced transmission circuits. If I had an avp Al; Ide probably cave in Then Ide look at the price and wake up Edited December 3, 2008 by cwt
Spearmint Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Thanks for the info Al. I was somewhat excited until I saw this photo...look at the size of the fan! Have I mentioned fan noise is one of my pet hates.

cwt Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Am I missing something or is there no HDDVD support??Hakka. It was mentioned at one stage [when hd dvd was alive] Hakka ; but was dropped for complexity and cost iirc reasons .
betty boop Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 good interview with Jeff Talmadge (Denon Jeff - US technical director at denon) at CES about the new player http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=f2vh5cWWsLo as he says it will be the best of the best, but good to hear as he says there will be trickle down from it to other denon products over the next year or so good page here from cav, but as rab says we will not be getting it just as yet ! http://www.carltonaudiovisual.com.au/?q=node/view/1073

fawlty99 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Thanks for the info Al.I was somewhat excited until I saw this photo...look at the size of the fan! Have I mentioned fan noise is one of my pet hates. Yes I hate fans as well HOWEVER the bigger size could mean it rotates slower & so is quieter. A moot point for me however as it will be way outside my budget.
betty boop Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 PAL Support? hi spero, as per rab from cavs note on their website, its not for our market jsut yet, I suspect for this very reason. some lovely pics on the UK avland site http://www.avland.co.uk/denon/dvda1ud/lifestylelrg.jpg their specs here say PAL & NTSC for their UK market http://www.avland.co.uk/denon/dvda1ud/dvda1ud.htm so imagine just a matter of time for the oz market. that is if they bother to make for our region & bring here ...
Aspect Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 This is way out of my league on all levels, but how can it be "the best of the best" if it doesn't have 24p support? Consider this a noob question... Cheers, Chris

cwt Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 For DVD, I believe it does for BD............Good point though.cheers It says source direct down the bottom Macca ; if it means the same as pio's must mean 1080p/24 . I think maybe the 1080p upscaling line is just an interim statement ; the pana bd35 can do sd 1080p/24 I believe ; for the price Ide want the realta to put out custom resolutions

Guest Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I was told by the guys at Westcoast that APG (Denon)is not bringing any BD players here in Aus this year.
MACCA350 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I was told by the guys at Westcoast that APG (Denon)is not bringing any BD players here in Aus this year.See, even they can't justify the price cheers
Guest Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I agree, I think Denon has too much competition in the Blu ray market ive gotta a feeling that there prices of the players are going to keep them out of the game.
el-ricardo Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Spoke to my dealer today, was told yes, there is something coming from Denon for BD but it will be very expensive (which to me means it has to be the DVD-A1UD). Once I get more info I'll post.

Once I get more info I'll post. there is a thread in the Blu-Ray section (posted by Franin) about the arrival of some denon BD players soon.
Spero D. Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) It's coming according to APA. March 20th $7999 RRP. If it can be made Region free for both DVD and Blu-Ray I'll consider it Edited February 6, 2009 by Spero D.
betty boop Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 good interview with denon jeff here with a bit more detail on its workings http://www.listenup.com/content/partner_st...ew_Feb.2009.php
cwt Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 It gives a better grasp on how the DL4 works Al ; reads to me its pqls jitter control for all forms of pcm including decoded dvd audio/sacd . I liked the jibe about pio's 2ch cd jitter control ; the new 23fd does similar for multichannel as well . When you bitstream its all a bit academic this jitter question anyway .The bit I noticed was this; This is the first, and, actually, we'll have a couple more this year based on this particular model. Rules out the current pana based players ; something without the analog outs would be great..
