andrew81 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 As the title suggests, does anyone have any experiences of playing a playstation 2 on either the new Samsung 6 series, or the Sony W4000 / W4500 series? How does it look after the TV upscales the image? Thanks.
Sentry459 Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I have my PS2 hooked up to my Samsung N series and it looks rather ordinary, and in comparison to running it on a CRT it looks quite rubbish. I kinda wish I kept an old CRT round to play my old consoles on.
diesel Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Upgrade your cables to component from PS2 to TV. Ireckon it looks OK, but nothing compared to a next gen console displaying 720p/1080p
Guest Binstar Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 From what I've read the PS2 is going to be much better on the sony, below is my situation. I was ready to make the plunge on a new Samsung 52" 650 LCD, when I came upon some reviews mentioning it was terrible output lag of up to 70ms on standard images. Now I am aware there are several work arounds like game mode, vga cable and hdmi2/pc mode (1080 mode only) naming but they still produce around 30ms of lag and the image is degraded using these modes. The TV would be primarily used for gaming and movies, with lan sessions etc so lag would be a major issue. I am considering the sony W4500 which has 0-10ms and would seem better for gaming, but it is ~$600 more and doesn't come with the free blu-ray player. With the hdmi2 renaming it apparently works quite well with 1080P forced inputs like the 360 but the ps3 is game dependent and other consoles are out of luck, but I do primarily use the 360 for gaming and would use the blu-ray/PS3 basically just for movies (with a few PS3 games). So can anyone shed any light on their opinions of the lag for the Samsungs under different setups and if anyone knows any information on a recent firmware update that may have minimised the issue? I doubt it would be very easier to actually test the tv with consoles in a store.
