bigkid1503559500 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 (edited) Just spent hours and still no closer to updating the software on this rubbish. Why can't you update via USB like every other bit of bloody HT equipment out there! Managed to get a connection, watched patiently as it updated for about 60 minutes, then....connection failed!!! Unable to get a connection since. Having to dick around with my network pisses me off at the best of times. Who has time for this crap! Rant over - maybe I'll have another go on the weekend. Perfect...no HT for 5 days. a Edited December 1, 2008 by bigkid

Perfect...no HT for 5 days. a alan have you got it hooked right to the modem, rather than through a router or switcher or wireless something. if connection fails you just switch it on/off and try again. it usually picks up where left off they dont allow usb updates, because denon prefers to check what you have to only update as needed. and yeah they dont want the firmware updates falling in the wrong hands (ie hackers) plus usb updates are no guarantee, know of a few who have bricked things with even usb and cd updates
bigkid1503559500 Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 Thanks al. Connected direct to the modem rather than through the router (which had worked for the first 60 minutes) and it completed the update. I had tried a direct connection earlier but I must have done something else wrong. Anyway, all done now. What a way to spend an evening after a long crappy day at work. Thanks again. a
bigkid1503559500 Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 Still not very reliable connecting via internet. Takes several resets of the modem and/or the 3808 to establish a connection. Poor form, and very bloody boring. Wonder if the servers at the other end are on top of the load they must be experiencing with the recent updates. Otherwise enjoying the 3808 experience, to the point that I might shift my underutilised Elektra Theatre. Regards, Allan
hakka69 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 (edited) If there's more than 30 hops between your denon and the server you will have problems. What ISP are you with? You should be able to find the ip of the denon server in your router outgoing log (you might have to enable it - check the router manual), then open a command prompt and type: tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx insert the denon server ip where the xxx are, if it shows more than 30 hops your isp is the problem. bigkid1503559500 Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 Hi Hakka. My router, a Netgear RP614, only seems to log only traffic to sites I have set as 'blocked'. Probably time to upgrade. My ISP is Optusnet. As I am currently up to date, I'll probably wait and get a new router when I have some time off to get my head around it. Thanks for the input. a
