Blackman1503561291 Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Can someone please explain how to find out who is behind a web site (i know some site you can't) by doing a whois. I use to know how to do it through command prompt but I have somehow forgotten the correct procedure. Start/All Programs/accessories/command prompt/ Now what comes after this! Thanks.
DrP Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Step 1: close the command prompt Step 2: open a web browser Step 3: ferret around with www.domaintools.com domaintools.com should point you to a nic that holds more useful info if it doesn't return what you need. Yes, there are many and varied ways and there's still a few public whois servers out there but domaintools.com usually does the trick and its easy.
