Blu-ray Becoming More Mainsteam

Featured Replies

Hi All,

This thread is meant to be slightly funny, along with asking a serious question which will probably be answered in a few simple posts. I was trawling to see what new titles that were coming out soon and found this:

http://www.dvdcrave.com.au/products/product.jsp?pid=47109

It might sound funny, but when titles like this (especially it being Australian) starts to make me question if Blu-Ray is starting to become more mainstream, and not just be something for audiofiles.

I dont know, it might just be me. I've started to notice I'm not the only person now looking at the Blu section when I go shopping (it may just be the same 5 people in my area that go trawling for cheap buys such as myself    )

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Also LA confidential comes out this week (shows up for under $26 on dvdcrave - so I'll be adding one more to my collection  )

Today I went to Big W at Loganholme far from where I live and shop.

I knew bluray was taking off when I saw at least two bogans looking at the Bd titles. No offence to other bogans intended.

I picked up some arthousey films that had obviously been ignored.

Are there any titles in 7.1?

I guess the music will still sound crap no matter what the format, DTS, Master, HD etc etc

This was indeed the case with VHS during the VHS/Betamax format war - the US Porn Industry chose VHS as their preferred format and this is often cited as a significant influencer in the outcome in favour of VHS's superiority.
Yes but the dynamics of today's market is completly different, I'd suggest the Adult industry will have little effect on pushing blu-ray into mainstream.

Remember the majority of the Adult industry first chose HD DVD..............that didn't work out too well

cheers

You were in the right place then, if you're looking for bogans, the Bogandome is the place to find them! Hang on, is there a Big W at the Bogandome? K-Mart is there, Big W at Beenleigh?

they might have though they were really nice coasters for their cans of jim beam and coke, or they saw an instructional blu ray copy of how to tune up your EH holden or how to make a flanno shirt.

Wow cold spaghetti in High Def :o

Actually I think the true measure of it going mainstream is when I can pick up my vegies and buy a disc at the same time i.e. selling at Safeway/Coles

Bogans drinking jim beam? I thought 440ml woodstock was their preferred drink.

Hd porn on a 100 inch screen sounds great until you actually see it.

actually that coment surprised me. Obviously I dont hang around the right kind of shops (or in Canberra) but the last "purchased" video I would have seen would have been on VHS.

With the internet, I'm surprised that anyone buys them at all anymore, yet it's probably a big business.

We had an ISP in at the office a while ago looking to upgrade some of their comms gear. While chatting to them, they mentioned that 75% of all their traffic is porn related. That blew me away.

In fact where do the figures come from that suggest the biggest selling titles on BD are porn? I have never seen anything that actually suggests that and thought the biggest selling titles were Casino Royale, Ironman etc.

sounds like an 'internet fact'

you may be right there, however if it were true, I doubt if you would hear much publicity about it

Back in the day when the "format war" was on, these figures were quoted.

As someone else posted the adult studios siding with HD DVD was supposed to be a big plus and get them over the line or at least continue to compete side by side. We all know how that turned out.

Don't know where I read it or the exact numbers now but the sales figures for porn DVD against regular DVD release was staggering. (I think it was in the print media, Herals Sun maybe) I have a vague memory it may have been US figures only but I really couldn't believe how high the sales were.

Must be a lot of closet watchers out there :ninja:

I thought most people that regularly watch Porn would have failing eye sight so the high definition would be irrelevant ;)

As your Avatar suggests they all wear glasses like you and me.

There is not much I can post in regards to figures without blowing (no pun intended) the confidentiality a few local distributors

However, i can share facts from the wholesale perspective that BD sales in porn exceeds total sales of mainstream movies by a considerable amount.

Remember, that when the industry shows BD sales as a percentage of total movie sales, they only talk about mainstream movie houses, and that porn related sales are non inclusive

BD is here to stay

Need some original Hi5 transfers to BD, bring on Kathleen in HD!
