Please Help Me With Buying A $1,500 5.1 Speaker System

Looking for suggestions on a home theatre system, looking at getting a Onkyo 605 and have $1,500 left to spend on speakers. My room is 4.5w/4L will be running a PS3, 360 and my pc which has a Auzentech X-fi Prelude through the 605. Main usage will be movies and games.

Check out the Jamo 606 5.1 package (RRP ~ $2500, but can be had for well under $1500).

Focal Sib Cubs can be had for $1500. Or could a month or two back. Perhaps with recent price rises this is no longer true but worth checking out.

I also think the Jamo 606 5.1 would be ok, I also think at that price point you could also look at Accusound (Australian Speaker company) they sell 5.1 systems on ebay for around $700-$800 brand new (RRP $2,500) which are ok as well with full warranty. At $1,500 your not going to get the most musical speakers but there are lots of options that are good for movies/gaming. Also you could look at 2nd hand as there is always good value to be had there. With a room that size you wont need monster speakers but do give thought to speaker placement and room acoustics as being pretty much square you will end up with some standing waves issues.

Yes, if you could add a $1K you could get into some pretty good floor standers.

But that is always the case isn't it, the more money you spend the better you get.

My daughter has the Sib Cubs and likes them.

Wow, those Jamo's look incredible. Is it worth stretching by budget a bit to get the HSC8's over the HSC6's?

Ummm, prolly about $100-150 Bit of a typo before, they're Jamo s606 HCS8's basically the exact same but with a SUB300 instead of the SUB250

Go for the bigger sub if you can, but even with sub300 - it could be had for under $1500 (from HN) :-)

I think some one said in another thread that he bought the 606 with sub300 for $1300. Worth pm him to find out....
