Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone with an existing standard foxtel install has been able to avail of the free IQ1 deals if you sign up for another 12 months.

They seem to only be for new customers but surely plenty of people must be ringing up to cancel foxtel in these lean times. I would have thoght this could be a potential offer to keep customers onboard.

Cheers

I tried all ways to get the free update...

Only offer on the table is $100 upgrade fee plus $5 / month for 12 months (no contract)

I reckon for an extra $160 for the year, its worth ot just so I can use HDMI switching!

There was talk earlier this year that Fox would upgrade all non IQ subscribers to IQ at no extra cost soon after the HD release, it was believed that the IQ box was to become the standard STB.

I would try and talk to the reps and see if you can score the deal, although knowing Foxtel nothing is free.

Good luck!

a work friend of mine got the free upgrade after a lengthy conversation with a sales staff member at foxtel he had been with them 9yrs though and said ill just cancel and re subscribe lol

I'm on the 5/5/5 deal, and about to hit my 6 months, after which time IQ returns to its normal $10/mth (platinum) vs. $5.

I think I might try to convince them to give me free IQ for the next 12 months!

I haven't been offered a "free" upgrade, but I have been trying to negotiate an upgrade to IQ2 + multiroom IQ through Telstra for the last week. After calling them twice and waiting for them to call back to organise an installation date, I happened to chat with the Foxtel rep in my local shopping centre and got a better deal through them. $100 install, all up cost versus $200 install from Telstra + costs for moving my original IQ into another room. Telstra flatly refused to negotiate the price even when I told them the Foxtel deal. I've now switched back to Foxtel and signed up for the cheaper install package. Telstra are flaming idiots in my book. They are their own worst enemy.

I think just about everyone will agree with you there.

I remember when Telstra had a better deal for Foxtel than Foxtel did, I decided I'd sign up. I was part way through signing up and they attempted to forcibly port my number back to them without explaining that Foxtel was only available when bundled with a service, e.g. PSTN or mobile. At that point, I terminated the call.

So is it possible to upgrade to an IQ2 for $100 if you are an existing Foxtel

customer with the old standard pace box ?

I'm something like a $75 package with all but the movie channels.

I want to at least get an ICQ from them, but may get the HD channels down the

track so an IQ2 would make more sense.

I rang after 7pm on friday and the girl told me that I would have to speak to someone on saturday

about getting the free IQ, and I asked how much was the !Q2 she said you could either free.

On saturday morning they said yes both were free for 12 months (you had to go back on a contract)

but I had to pay the $200 installation fee if I wanted the IQ2. I told her what I was told on Friday,

and she did the old I will talk to my team leader, and came back with the $100 installation fee.

I didn't mind about the contract again, it's not as if there is much competition for Foxtel, and my

monthly spend has remained the same, plus now I can get HD switched on for a month if I want

to give it a go, or if it improves.

I just rang them and getting the IQ2 upgrade installed on Wednesday so it mustn't be very busy at the moment. Not sure if I got a good deal though, I did get the $100.00 install and free multi room install, I got the iq2 for $5.00 for the first 12 months but multiroom is costing me $25.00 per month $15.00 multiroom fee and $10.00 iq1 rent per month. I thought the IQ1 fee was waived when going multiroom with IQ2...

But I needed two Iqs at the moment so I can't complaiin too much. Not getting the platinim package as its not what we need so we are going from our normal package which currently costs $91.00 per month to IQ2 & IQ1 same packages with the monthly fee now $111.00 so an increase of $20.00 so not too bad I guess..

The deal at the moment for upgrades is $100.00 install fee and Half price IQ2 rental for 12 months. Thats the Xmas deal but havent seen it advertised anywhere

Thanks for the info Kopthat

I got this deal too. Install on Wed coming. There were flyers at my local JB. The salesman simply had to put his name and shop number in the places provided. No purchase or anything needed. Also haven't seen it 'advertised' as such.

Well I got the IQ2 with free rental for 12 months, and the $100 install fee, but had to go on a 12 month contract.

Forgot to add that we have to do that too. No drama though. I had every intention of staying a Foxtel customer.

Got ours installed this morning, and then I get a call from the missus and she can't get it to work or change channels.

I will have to reprogram the harmony remote because the connection has gone from component to hdmi.

Tried to talk her through chaning the connection setting on the TV device, but no luck, but then She isn't too techie,

bless her cotton socks :)

Not gonna touch that one :)

I was surprised that just getting the IQ2 box lets you have the free to air channels in HD

I thought you had to subscribe to HD

Means I can move my old hd set top box to my projector

At the local Shopping Centre yesterday, I was offered an IQ2 upgrade for $100, free IQ in a second room, plus half price ($5 each) service fee for 12 months, plus $15 for the HD channels. Thought that was okay. I am on old Pace box with Platinum at the moment.

Got a phonecall later to say that they could not do the deal because I am on Telstra billing. Now to cancel that, I have to look at the effect on my phone and Bigpond deal. Nonetheless, it is apparent that loyalty (been a subscriber since Foxtel began) is of no value these days...

Pity, as no one like to be taken for granted and I REALLY don't like that.. Tempted to cancel the bloody service and become a Freeview user and spend the rest hiring and purchasing the odd Blu-ray. B)

Got Foxtel coming on tuesday to install the IQ2 for $100 free for 12 months

After reading through this thread, I thought I would ring Telstra and Foxtel to see if either would be willing to offer a similar deal. Our Foxtel is currently through Telstra and they couldn't offer anything apart from the standard upgrade cost ($200 installation plus $10 per month for the IQ2).

So I rang Foxtel - after doing the usual Phone transfer roundabout I ended up speaking to a nice lady in sales. She said that I would have to cancel my Foxtel through Telstra and become a new Foxtel direct customer to be eligible for any of their advertised specials. I mentioned this website and quoted the deal that "kopthat" had gained (love that name by the way)....after checking with her manager (apparently the only one there who was familiar with the forum), she offered me a $100 installation, free use of the IQ2 for 12 months, a new IQ1 to replace the one in the other room (it seems Telstra will want their one back) and on top 7 months of the HD channels free. Good deal!! Needless to say, I took it.

I know we like to bag Foxtel service reps/salespeople but I was really impressed with her patience and helpfulness. After I had organised all that and an installation date with Foxtel, I rang Telstra back and also got a good service rep who, without any fuss, organised my cancellation of Foxtel through Telstra and said that they would send out return mailing packages for the old boxes after the new ones were installed. All in all, although it took about an hour on the phone, I have it organised. Now I just have to hope the installation date doesn't get changed or SWMBO will be unhappy. It's a bit of an inconvenience having to give up the old IQ1 (lots of watching to empty the Hard Drive), but hey, we get a new one.

I'm not sure how long these deals will last but if anyone is thinking of upgrading, jump in soon. Thanks to the posters above for their good advice and sharing their experiences.

Good on you merapi!

I am not too patient when it comes to haggling. I ask for the best deal they can do or move on. As it was, I still spent half an hour after 3 mins haggling with Telstra today. Getting the iq2 for $150 after rebate, no credits though. But since I get 10% off my combined phone, bigpond and foxtel which amounts to about $25-30 per month, that is too much to lose to go to Foxtel and ditch Telstra at the moment. I'll get over it after the thing's installed I expect.
